Lagos state government demolishes market in Ikorodu overnight leaving traders distraught

Traders in Sabo market, Ikorodu, were greeted by a heartbreaking sight as they arrived their place of business this morning to find that their shops had been demolished the night before.

The demolition was reportedly carried out by the Lagos state government on the night of May 3rd, after the traders had closed for the day.
Sahara reporters shared a video of the scene this morning, showing traders as they tried to salvage what they could from the demolished stalls.
In a separate video, the market women can be seen wailing at the misfortune which befell them. They blamed Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for the demolition that has caused them to lose their means of livelihood.

The Lagos state government is yet to comment on this.

ALmighty God I pray you intervene on our wicked leaders.years back one of my white customers visited me here in Nigeria,he observed that in Nigeria everyone is selling one thing or the other, he commented that Nigerians are hardworking. I agree with him but I told him that in Nigeria our goverment does not care abt the masses, no employment, no benefit, so everyone is fetching for himsef or else hunger will deal with him. Now emerging the same place where ths masses is hurstling for wat they use to take care of their families the same goverment that steal their monies that put the country in recession are now demolishing.

The vision is for Lagos to become a mega city. All pop up markets, road side shops/kiosks, shanties and slums will eventually meet this fate. Don't let it catch you unawares

If these traders were not notified of the demolition then they should come together and sue the state government. We are talking about hardship and they are creating double hardship for individuals. How cruel.

In this buhari hardship times you end people's means of livelihood just like that? Why not come in the day with armed soldiers and ask them to pack their things. At least it's less painful. One small paint of garri is #1000

They were informed of the demolition exercise but trust Nigerians to always turn deaf ear,no government would carry out such a process, let's all be realistic, those saying the government should be sued should be aware that the government knows they can be sued for not following due process hence they were servered notices, most would claim they weren't aware of such notices but they have market leaders they should go to for answers.
