KAI officials pictured asking an elderly man to frog jump for not using the pedestrian bridge in Lagos (photo)

There's a special punishment from God for people who mistreat children and elderly people. Stupid officials like they don't have fathers at home!

What you wrote under this topic makes no sense at all what they are doing is called been lenient with the man otherwise they would have arrest him and put him jail for some days cause the bridge is for him to use what if as he is crossing a vehicle hit him and he die then you will put graphic photo of a hit and run that is what you want right, from the punishment when he get home he will thank God for his life and obey law next time law leave no one and knows no age or gender

Bola Elegbede said...

Maybe their own elders don't break laws

And your comment is stupid and senseless as well. Are you justifying the inhuman punishment meted out to an old man? How gross can some people be, if it were your father would you have the guts to write this your nonsense. Hypocrite

Anonymous said...

You all that commented attacking the officials are all mad. The man preferred the punishment otherwise he would have chosen to be charged. which he may not have had the cash to pay for the charge. Stop criticising and insulting. Nigerians are babies with no head

You can imagine this kind of comments from some of us! Pls if that elderly man is killed by on coming vehicle, will the killer go free for hitting or killing an elderly man? Do we think before we talk at all?

I disagree with u guys, so good govment will spend money just for you not to commit sucide an you went ahead wanted to kill ur self bcos ur an elderly person .Aunty when last did you drove one way on Lagos road ?

Frog jump is not the only punishment in the world, that man is too elderly to frog jump, the Kai man should have ask the man to sit somewhere, thereby delaying the man for like 10-20min and warn him not to repeat such again. The elderly man should as well know that the pedestrian bridge is for their own safety.

Anonymous said...

The old man was wrong and should learn to do the right thing to avoid being embarrassed. He should be sent to jail if that will make him adhere to the rules next time.

Anonymous said...

Linda, the editors of your blog though! he didn't know he was elderly before breaking an important traffic rule. weare too myopic chai.

Anonymous said...

That's a question you need to ask yourself fool

Anonymous said...

Lol clown!!! Many of us probably thought about it, but only u could say it out loud!

Anonymous said...

What if he's old to climb the bridge. Nigeria is a country where there are no plans for the aged people. Their mobility, up keep etc. Especially in a situations where all the children are all grown and left home to search to d their survivals, or future...I'm sure u v such situation at home too

Anonymous said...

Nigerians and sentiments! What the 'Old Man' did is suicidal. How did he even manage to run and make it across the road? We are just too lazy for the wrong reasons. I was once arrested for same offence, a very long time though but what i went through that very day was more harrowing than a frog jump. I would have preferred another form of punishment on the spot, a frog jump or something else other than the threats and harassment in the hands of police men at the station where we were taken to. Experience they say is a cruel teacher, ever since that ugly experience I dare not risk my life crossing an express-way even though the Pedestrian bridge is hundred meters away.

What if a vehicle hit him while trying to cross the road.
What if the Kai official put him in black Maria n lock him up to bail himsef....

If the man is killed by an oncoming car it's oku ijoba and the killer will Walk away freely, there's no case.so that punishment serves him right.next time he will not cross the road.

IYKE EKE said...

Will people curse these men if the old man is knocked down by a car while crossing the road when there is obviously a pedestrian bridge?

In as much as insulting the elders is not good, the elderly man disobeyed the rule,he prefers to be hit by a vehicle. The kai official didn't do well,he would've ordered the man to go though the pedestrain crossing.

Fam! There is a law and there is adequate punishment for it. Firstly, to convict one of a crime, a judge of appropriate jurisdiction has to hear the case, see evidence and hear from the defendant and prosecutor about the details of said crime. Then once convicted, appropriate punishment is given. Do not EVER support any movement where the police or law enforcement agency is judge and jury and prosecutor and defense. The reason? It will always lead to abuse of power.
Second, this sort of behavior doesn't stop crime happenening. Is it not only frog jump? He will do it again and do the frog jump. To stop crime, you have to TEACH people the alternative and give them reason to choose to do the right thing.

Now imagine a scenario where this man had been caught and showed graphic photos of someone who crossed and was hit by a car and dismembered. Would this deter him from crossing? Maybe not everyone but a large majority.

Lastly, these KAI fuckers and their enablers are more guilty of the offenses they claim to police. Go and see how filthy the places they hang out are. They drink pure water, floor. Eat mama put, the plate is on the floor, they even break their laws in the name of protecting the law.

I'd never support people crossing the road inappropriately Cos I am a driver and it does worry me that I might hit one someday. However what is more worrisome is that a lot of Nigerians don't trust that the bridge won't collapse while they walk across it.

Angela said...

I agree with you totally..i am sure Linda isn't the one that wrote all that balderdash in the Intro! I certainly hope not! The "elderly" man should be arrested and given 7 strokes of the cane too for being so senseless at his old age ..Have you thought of what can happen to a hapless motorist that may hit him while dashing across the freeway? Have you thought that immediately the erring driver may be lynched and his car even burnt just becos or this careless old man! Nigerians like to leave facts and reality and become overly sentimental over clear-cut issues! The foot bridge is there, use it!! If you are too sickly or old to climb it,sit your ass at home or use an alternative route to by-cut the highway rather than being a potential alakoba! Simple!

Anonymous said...

So arrest him and charge him. Don't demean him. Don't strip him of his dignity as a human being. No one is saying don't punish him, this isn't punishment, it is abuse

Angela said...

Leave God outa the matter jare! The Baba should not dash across the highway, simple!! He is endangering his life and that of any unfortunate motorist that hits him! Simple! Na this same Linda go carry picture of corpse say na hit and run ! Simple logic,Naija peeps go de call GOd upandan!God neva punish Boko, never punish IBB,Saraki,Buhari,Tinubu and fellow execu'theives'...na KAI im go get time face abi ?

Global Music Distribution said...

That is better than paying 20 or 50 thousand naira . please get sense and obey the law

Anonymous said...

They did their jobs! The law does not respect age , what is wrong is wrong . The law is simple, clear and without exemption- use the gaddem bridge!

Anonymous said...

As painful as this is, it is quite unfortunate that we have all failed to realise that this is one of the major reasons we are where we are today. Lack of discipline. Will the man cross tomorrow having frog jumped? Pls we all know the right things to do as well as what not to do. May God grant us the grace to tow the right path always. God bless Nigeeia

They have no respect for their elders.

The man would have asked them to charge him, or rather, call his lawyer.

O-Ice said...

And the appropriate, lawful punishment for breaking this traffic rule is frog jump? What if the man is new in Lagos and ignorant of this traffic rule? And please, you don't have to berate people because they don't share your view @ myopic

O-Ice said...

Nigeria is lawless because law enforcement agents break the law and abuse the power given to them all the time. And some ignorant people clap for them. What happened there is not law enforcement, it's abuse of power. And as long as we treat ourselves like animals (without human dignity), the outside world will not treat us better. People break traffic rules in sane climes. This is not how they treat the matter.

O-Ice said...

Then he should be punished within the ambit of the law. Publicly administering corporal punishment to an elderly man berates us as a people? Did the law say to make him do frog jump?

O-Ice said...

And you must be very proud of yourself for insulting people you don't know simply because they hold a view different from yours. Well done, clap for yourself!!

O-Ice said...

Use the "gaddem bridge" or be subjected to frog jump? Is that how simple and clear the law is?

O-Ice said...

Yes, this is one of the reasons we remain where we are. That law enforcement agents abuse their office and power, and strip NIgerians of their dignity, and some of us applaud them till we fall victim ourselves. All kinds of uniformed men have been subjecting people to this indignity for several decades now. Why has it not corrected all the indiscipline in our society, if this is the solution as you imply?

Anonymous said...

I believe there's a set aside punishment meant for law breakers, it would have be better for this man than dealing with him like a pupil. This is crazy

Nigerians, You people are hypocrites. You encourage lawbreakers cos of their age and condemn law enforcement agents for doing their jobs? If this were a picture of the old man hit while crossing the road with the KAI officials standing by, you'd still condemn the KAI of officials for allowing the old man cross the road instead of using the pedestrian bridge. Nigeria will NEVER be good if we continue with this dumb mentality that law should respect age. Linda I'm disappointed.

wale Abimbola said...

Is just for his family sake, so that they won't loose him...what take him to use the pedestrian bridge..

Samray said...

Linda your topic is wrong. Instead of telling Nigerians to always obey the law, you are motivating them to do wrong in the name of old. Tomorrow pregnant woman will do same just because she is pregnant. Literally na dem need the bridge pass every.

Folasade Abayomi said...

We have them as friends and family. They will end well. We need not generalise.

After the devil is done punishing them, God will also punish dem. Thunder go also fire all of them, as dem no get elderly person for their village.
