Tony Rapu's This Present House releases statement on the sealing of their church

Read the statement below...
In the last couple of days, This Present House has been in the news, not in relation to what it is renowned for but rather over the right of way to its premises along Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The Church led by medical doctor and social entrepreneur Dr.Tony Rapu is well known for its acclaimed programs in social rehabilitation through Freedom Foundation and The God Bless Nigeria initiatives amongst others.

It is a humanitarian enterprise that has successfully taken many young men and women off the streets, off drugs and crime and turned them into responsible citizens of Lagos State. This Present House and the Lagos State Government have enjoyed a robust and mutually beneficial relationship over the years.

This has enabled the Church implement its multi-faceted programs, which have become a case study in Nigeria and abroad. For more on these programs please go to www.freedomfoundationng.org.

The Church (This Present House) which prides itself in citizenship development and leadership training, has quietly run these and many other programs over the years; the Bethesda School program offers full scholarship in its primary and secondary schools across the State for the indigents while Genesis House has successfully taken commercial sex workers off the streets of Lagos.

The Church has run these programs from its Lekki Phase 1 office for the past 15years. The right of way to this premises is currently being re-assessed by the Lagos State Government. The Church will like to inform its congregation, well-wishers and the general public who have been anxious in the last couple of days following the discussion generated in the public space that it is in touch with the State authorities and avenues for a speedy resolution are being explored. We believe that this would be achieved within the shortest possible time.

There are many challenges confronting our dear nation. It has always been the belief of the Church that religious institutions being trustees of the discretions and personal struggles of the people are necessary partners of government. The Church has no doubt that the issue at hand will be amicably resolved with Lagos State government.

Amazing, didn't realise it was the same TPH that owned Bethesda,I know the school in Ikota very well, the kids are fed once a day and the church members pay their fees. Was wondering how an individual was able to run a school, pay staff and still feed kids who don't pay fees. It makes sense now. Hah, one meal a day, they have been doing it for over 3 years and Mr presido and awon change, we still dey wait. Tony Rapu, #wehdonesir. Keep up the good walk.

I have followed this man's ministry for 17 years minimum and I can tell you, they don't make men like this anymore. Keep up the good work sir.

This is a Church that is serious about the plight of the citizens, a role Government is primarily responsible for. They are partners with government to build a better society, they don't look like a church out to defy the Government. I'm sure there's a misunderstanding somewhere.

I wonder why the government hadvto seal up the churches if they are reassessing the road.well, God cannot be mocked.

Well done TPH, we need churches like yours in Nigeria. Keep up the great work!!!

Stupid statement@ they don't make men like this anymore. You obviously don't know who God is.

Someone in Lagos is getting very very reckless and insensitive! So unfair. Do they want a state full of flowers and a state where the poor masses are completely anhililated?

It is reassuring to know that there are churches like This Present House that go beyond the speaking to actually doing things that positively affect the lives of the less advantaged people in society. Big ups to TPH!!!

The Church has been concerned about the welfare of the state and this is evidently seen in her projects, I wonder why the Lagos State Givt would allow this kind of issue be a public matter instead of addressing the leadership of the church in private discussions.

Am not a TPH member but I think some respect should be given to TPH, you cant mock God and succeed. Let peace and Love reign, issues like this should be sorted out privately for the interest of continuous growth and development.

The Government cannot do everything for her citizenry, that is why well meaning organizations like this should be supported even by the government. I passed through TPH today and was embarrassed when I saw some military men smoking outside the sealed premises, May God have Mercy on them.

We hope for a speedy resolution... This Present House Church is one of a kind in leadership and capacity development avenue not just for its congregation but also reach out to the chronically poor in our society. I know Freedom Foundation very well doing great work in impoverished communities in Lagos State. God bless Dr. Tony Rapu and the leadership of the Lagos State Government.

Yes the narrative in the press release is what churches are supposed to be doing in the first place. THP where is your building approval?

Kai!!! One cannot the argue with the leadership and responsibility contained in the response from this church. Unlike, typical Nigerian rebuttals, they are not even being hostile or confrontational. I am aware that they even started fixing the dual carriage road from ikate round about. That must have cost millions from the pocket of their members. If one combines this with their philanthropy, social projects the fact that this right of way matter has been existing under the eyes of Lagos State for 15 years, Government should deal with the matter in a firm but fair way. We need more organisations like this who help their communities and partner with government in making the lives of the common man better. God bless Dr Tony Rapu and This Present House. Eko o no baje o!
