"Shame on you hypocrites" Bisi Alimi slams Nigerians for giving Richard Quest a hero's welcome to Nigeria

CNN's Richard Quest is in Nigeria for an interview with Segun Demuren to discuss the aviation sector and Nigerians gave him a hero's welcome.

Gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi, has weighed in the welcome Quest got, saying it is hypocritical for Nigerians to treat Richard Quest, an openly gay man, as a hero, whereas gay Nigerians get lynched and molested.
Alimi said the double standard displayed by Nigerians is a shame and for this reason, his heart bleeds for Nigeria and makes him cry for his LGBT brothers and sisters.

He shared a photo with a text and added a caption to further buttress his point.
So I heard Richard Quest is in Nigeria and as usual, my people are drooling over him. These are the same Nigerians that will not allow an openly gay person on their screen, or even give one a job. What is different about Richard Quest that makes his homosexuality harmless but my homosexuality as a Nigeria scary and threatening? Is it that my people think my homosexuality is in some way earth destroying but that is Richard comforting or as a people we just lack pure emotional intelligence to appreciate our own? My heart bleeds for Nigeria, it does make me cry for my LGBT brothers and sisters.'' he wrote.

I agree with Bisi. He's right. If Nigeria denounces anything relating to being gay, then Richard Quest should not we welcomed as well. But trust Nigerians we can throw the first stone condemning each other, and not do the same to westerners especially public figures.

This Alimi should sharrap there! Quest was welcomed as an international Journalist who is credible, intelligent and very good at his J-O-B!!! What are you known for apart from being gay?? Try excelling in a profession and perhaps you will be accorded respect for what you have achieved and not for whipping up sentiments about being gay!!

All the people who have commented so far on this block are brainless. What Bisi is saying is true both of them are gay men. This is a country that made a law of 14 years for any gay person and here are they celebrating a gay man because he's white. We see white people as God.

This is what happens in Nigeria. I got a land in some part of Nigeria to get the Certicate of Occupancy was thug of war for more than 8 years till the day i went to the commissioners office with a white person immediatley we were ushered and in and the commissioner signed the certificate and gave it to me.

Cheryl, what culture? Domestic violence, child abuse, jungle justice, religious fanaticism, corruption, ignorance, poverty, sexism, tribalism?

What a stupid word that has no meaning.

What do you an ignorant buffoon, share in common with a Hausa man, a Ghanaian woman or a Somalian child, beyond skin colour, that comes in varying shades and undertones.

What similarities, beyond proximity is there between a Yoruba individual and an Edo person?

You don't share the same languages, you don't share the same physique, and clearly you don't share intelligence, though the general levels of intelligence, is varying degrees of stupid and daft.

There is no such thing as a universal black/ African culture, even twins would have varying ideologies/interests.

Forced traditions, stupid beliefs, identity politics and culture are just notions, social constructs, used conveniently to divide and persecute others.

You are an individual. Like you, Bisi is an entity unto himself, a confused one, but that being said, you have no right to try and disqualify him from his racial identity, because he doesn't conform to your uneducated idea of what it means to "be" what you think he should be culturally.

His identity, does not begin and finish at him being a gay man. It doesn't belong to you, and you are not an expert on culture and identity.

Linda, Bisi needs to be left alone now. You are playing with his life and mental wellbeing, for what? Traffic on your blog.

You can do so much better. You're trying to empower young girls, commendable, but Bisi, like most gay men, are people too, and though you're trying to be balanced with your content, you sometimes push the boundaries of good taste.

Bisi, stop defining yourself by your sex. Until I read this Linda article, each time Richard's name is mentioned, all I think about is solid news analysis, not who he is having sex with. ON the contrary, when I hear your name, all I think about is anal sex. Redefine yourself around something purposeful and people will see you for who you are. You are not only defined by the type of sex you prefer. You were made for more.

What Bisi said does not make sense if he as a gay is adding value with relevance to the society I will understand he reason for complaining. You + Him should just shut up, comparing a world acclaimed journalist to a nonentity person.

It's racism through and through. If we openly protest indigenous homosexuality we should also be protesting Richard Quest. He was caught having gay sex in a public place while married, I'm sure if the average Nigerians caught other Nigerians in that act they would be lynched. I have nothing against both men in this instance, but it is shamefully hypocritical that we treat out fellow Nigerians with contempt and exhalt a foreigner. It would never happen abroad.

Ok. 2 people are accused of robbery, one is the son of a senator, the other the son of a pepper seller, they go to court and a witness claims that the senator's son was only driving his 2016 RR at the scene of the incident so he isn't guilty even though they find some of the stolen items in his car, it must have been a mix-up. What a shame, how did the son of a pepper seller from a decent home end up in this mess. The rich man's son gets bail, the son of the pepper seller goes to jail. So, senator Lagbaja dies and his son a reformed thief tries his hands on naija politics, afterall he is rich and gets into his state's assembly. Pepper seller pikin leaves prison after 7 years, applies for a cleaner job at Mr Small Fast Food Tantalicious, they employ him but don't let them know about your past o ehn heh, after about 6 months working there, while cleaning a spill of water under the table of one of the customers, attention gets drawn to the suddenly burst of claps and roars by an announcement on TV where Late Chief Senator Doctor CCTV Lagbaja's son is standing with the state's commissioner of police to address the press on why he donated 4 hilux vehicles to aid the police in their crack down on the mayhem caused by robbers in the state.....would love to continue, but I wonder what Bisi's point really is???

1 In quest country being gay is not a crime,
2 he didn't come to Nigeria to practice his sexual act. He knows it a crime. Here
To. You bisi why are you bitter, your country says being gay it's a crime. You left for another country knowing it a crime in your country, Bisi your case is different from dat of Quest. N I. Would advise you to stick with the country you are staying now and forget about Nigeria for Now
Stop disturbing Nigerians abeg.

Before coming out as Gay, Richard Quest already established himself as a multi talented broadcast Journalist. He didn't force his way of life down our throats. He distinguished himself as a fine journalist and not simply 'a gay man'.
BISI ALIMI, please what do you do? what is your talent? where have u distinguished yourself? Aside from waving your rainbow flag screaming injustice, which area have you distinguished yourself. Until you have valid answers. Its best to SHUT UP .

What pains me is that, from statistics Nigeria has a lot of gay people all in the closet. Those in the closet are the first to shout "kill him he is gay" until they are caught. From reports in Europe, most Gay clubs in Paris and Uk are visited by many Nigerian men. Some are married others are not. So who are these people. It is time to search ourselves. Richard quest is welcome so is Bisi or anyone else as long as you add value. Lets hope Richard quest reporting will add value before we praise him.
