'I’m not the owner of $50m found by EFCC' - Sacked NNPC MD, Esther Nnamdi- Ogbue

Sacked Managing Director at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue has denied ownership of the $50m found by EFCC in a residential building located at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi.

In a statement released through her lawyer, Emeka Etiaba SAN, she denied ownership of the large sum of money and commended the EFCC for their continuous fight in curbing corruption in the country.

The statement reads:

“The attention of Our Client, Mrs. Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue has been drawn to the news making round in the News Media to the effect that the large sums of money to wit: $38,000,000.00 (Thirty-Eight Million Dollars), N23,000,000.00 (Twenty-Three Million Naira) and £27,000.00 (Twenty-Seven Thousand Pounds) uncovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) from an apartment in Osborne Towers, Osborne Road, Ikoyi Lagos, Lagos State belong to her.

By this Press Release, we inform the public (especially the News Media) that the said sums of money and/or the apartment where the sums of money were found do not belong to Our Client.

Our Client is as shocked as many other Nigerians at the uncovering and recovery of the said sums of money and wishes to salute the courage and efforts of the EFCC in the war against corruption.

She also wishes to commend the whistle blowing policy introduced by the Federal Government in the fight against corruption which policy has resulted in large scale uncovering and recovery of monies and assets.

It is Our Client’s belief that the source and ownership of the said uncovered sums of money is known or eventually will be known by the EFCC in due course. There is, therefore, no need for conjecture or speculation.

A very big shame to all of you who are so desperate to run around with such an unverified news. So what happens now that Efcc has shifted their allegation to Anini's daughter? Abi Aunty don become Anini's daughter?

Can't they trace the owner through the records of the rent of the apartment. Who rented the apartment? Who pays the rent, from which bank is the cheque of the rent paid? Nigerians and inefficiency Nawao. If it were in an advance country, you can't be hearing all these " it's you", "it's not me". Meanwhile all these monies recovered should be used to better the lives of the citizens, e.g. pay salaries etc. And reduce the suicide rate.

A major question unanswered by her lawyer is that the property in Osborne where the money was found hers, does it belong to her?

Anonymous said...

According to EFCC report - "the money was found on a fire proof cabinet behind a false wall". Common sense should tell you that some reasonable building work will have gone on to create this false wall. I want to believe that an ordinary tenant will not be able to engage in such a project, therefore the finger points towards the owner or his agent/representative. However, this is Nigeria and anything can happen. My suspicion is that, if this money belongs to the ex-PDP chairman the case will be killed.

It has been proved beyond all reasonable doubt that the property belongs to Muazu. He himself has admitted ownership but that he rented it out.

Some years back a member of my Church was invited by the EFCC, and I had to go with him. EFCC was actually trying to use him to get someone else. When we got there, I had to act as his lawyer (pls I no lawyer oo). And after EFCC had interrogated him (I answered more than seventy five percent 70% of the questions by EFCC), they were still insisting the young man take them to his state. I vehemently objected, and I told them that, "the whole country belongs to you as a government agency, and you can get whoever you want with just a snaps of your finger". Even the whistle blower knew who owns the money, and also the source, or else, he wouldn't have given out information, because you cannot give info for what you knew nothing about
