Woman jumps into lagoon at Maza-Maza bridge in attempted suicide

A woman identified as, Emerald has attempted suicide by jumping into the lagoon from Maza-Maza Bridge in the Mile 2 area of Lagos.

According to the Daily Sun, a witness revealed that the woman was walking along the bridge when she suddenly got to the middle, climbed the rails and jumped.
Luckily she was rescued before she could drown by some men who were under the bridge.
“The thing happened so fast that we could not stop her. However, when she jumped, we called for help, prompting people under the bridge to dive in and rescue her,” said one of the witnesses, who gave his name as Emeka.
Another rescuer, Adewale said:
“We were under the bridge, when suddenly the woman’s body dropped from the bridge. At first, we thought she was either pushed over or fell over by mistake. We had to jump into the river and went for her. That was how we rescued her.”

A failed mental healthcare system and a failing culture that likes to 'form' pretend that they care when they could not give a rat ass. If people care, force government to reform mental healthcare, some therapists do not believe in depression, to some it is shyness, acting out, not manning up, that is their advice. Educate people about warning signs and what to do, the signs are usually all over the place, withdrawal, irritability, mood changes etc The question is whether the government actually believe in contemporary mental health studies or thinks it is just people acting out, shy, dumb, weak

Jesus take control! This is heart breaking ooooo. People, please seek help! It is soooooo easy to slip into depression. I was thought to speak to my GOD and my pillows. But when push comes to shove, SPEAK UP O. God will always send help. ALWAYS. You were bought at an expensive price and that price, the blood of Jesus, it will cry out for you. God has not given up on you, so don't you dare give up on HIM. It'll get better. It will. Hold on to God, hope, faith. Just hold on.

No qualified therapist would tell you they do not believe in depression.

What's the point of being a therapist, if your intention is to tell people their depression or inability to cope does not exist.

The culture of bottling things up, people telling you to ignore, churches telling you to pray and wanting to keep up appearances, instead of admitting you need a moment to regroup, are the basic root of poor mental health care.

We Nigerians take this issue so lightly...not everyone can manage depression(more especially when there is no good support system)...in Nigeria people don't care how u feel, we don't know how to support the next person, we dont know how to empathize with others. We dont know how to give or be of helping hand to others(our mentality is just me, myself and I). People see u smile and assume all is OK and when you try to share your worries they gossip and make fun of the whole situation (I am a victim of depression and I know how it feels like) most people won't get it. Depression is serious, very very serious

In as much as I'm never one to trivialise people's challenges, I find it highly alarming u will justify suicide & equally go into depression bcos ur career is suffering & u feel ur colleagues are moving past u. Dis is supposed to be coming from someone who has 4 kids & a loving husband. We are all products of our experiences no doubt, but please kindly work on ur self-esteem. Look around u, u will definitely c people u re better than a million times over; wake up b4 u wake up in a different realm. Cheers

Pliz don't, beg you in God's name. Yeah, life's tough but there's always a wind to turn it to good and easy. Wish I could do more, think of it no matter your situation you're a better person everyday. Find strength that a whole lot of people worldwide are in more dire dilemma. Pliz, love yourself for who and what you are. Nothing seems to be working you say BUT believe that things are working for YOU. Abeg doh.....think of your family too. You'll leave a vacuum, wish you well. The Lord be with you
