Nigerians are stunned with the story of a Northerner seeking a political seat in the East

According to Chukwu Ebuka who shared the poster above on Facebook, the Hausa man, identified as Hon. Alhaji Salisu Mohammed is contesting to be the councilor of Abakpa Ward 1  in the Eastern state of Ebonyi in Abakaliki. Hon. Mohammed is a member of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

When we say igbos are very clannish and unwelcoming of other tribes dem go say na lie.
See the comments but these same igbos Will tell you about democracy when they try to claim rights and even contest elections in Lagos.
They go to other people's land to thrive but others can't date to try it in igboland

Osita Dan Roni contested for Gwagwarwa councillorship in Nassarawa LG in Kano for in 2001. In 2013, Chukwuebuka (can't remember his full name) was the councillor representing Sabon Gari in Kano. Check other states, u ll find more examples.

So it has gotten to this extent? Buhari and his cohorts wants to islamise Nigeria by all means.

SO THE ABOKI IS NOT ENTILED TO VIE FOR A POLITICAL POSITION ABI, BUT HON RITA ORJI WON A SEAT IN THE HOUSE OF REP IFELODUN IN LAGOS STATE DESPITE THE FACT THAT SHE HAILS FROM IMO STATE.

I can remember many Igbo men were Chairmen and councilors In kano. Politics is a game of numbers. And perhaps it is a good thing in a right direction as it is an indication that Nigeria is still one entity.

I stayed in ebonyi 4 complete 5yrs, and theirs a lot of Hausa people there, d speak Igbo n hav lived there all their lives and has kids there too! There's a popular place called Ogbe Hausa, that's where u wil find most of dem. Don't be surprised if his mother is from Ebonyi. The are very nice people and homely. I am an Igbo lady and am not defending Hausa people but the once in Ebonyi bcs the are not bad or harmful.

This is nothing new. Hon Emmanuel Okere ,an Igbo man, in 1998 contested and won election as Councilor representing Sarkin Zamfara 'B' ward of Sokoto South local Government area of Sokoto State. He served a three - year term providing leadership to an area that is predominantly Hausa - fulani. In that election he prevailed over a Hausa - fula I opponent.

But igbos contest for offices in lagos .. cmon lets not b biased ... He wont win though ... But he has a right to contest anyway

Igbo candidates have won elections into the House of Representatives in Lagos State. The successful candidates who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are Chief Oghene Egboh, Mrs. Rita Orji and Mr. Tony Nwoolu.

And an Igbo man can contest and occupy political office in my State (Lagos) abi? What should unite us is always what divides us in this country.

IT WON'T WORK

This country call Nigeria is a contraption and a fraud. See all the negative comments, none has saluted his courage, none has stated this is house to build the unity of the country, none has requested that Hausa community in the North should allow none indigene to contest for elective post once it can be established that they are contributing to the economical growth of the area where they are domiciled. However, it is ok if an Igbo man is contesting for elective post in Lagos a state in the Western Nigeria, it is good if an Igbo has a representative in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Such a warped sense of justice makes me sick and makes me arrived at the conclusion stated in my opening comment. I will rather want a situation where every Nigerian can contest for elective post successfully any where in Nigeria irrespective whether or not you are an indigene. It is high time we stopped the system where children born in Lagos to Igbo parent or Hausa or Effik etc are still forced to claim the state of their parents instead of Lagos. Niegrians should claim the state in which they are born and not that of their parent. Perhaps if our founding father had laid this suggested foundation we would not be discussing this issue in 2017!

I AM A NIGERIAN OF EASTERN ORIGIN. NIGERIANS ARE VICTIMS OF HATRED. IT IS A VICIOUS CYCLE THAT MUST BE BROKEN! ANYBIDY SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONTEST FOR ANY POSITION IN NIGERIAIRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR ORIGIN.

This is good and encouraging. Igbos won election in Lagos state. The only thing wrong with this, is that no state in the core north will ever allow an Igbo Christian to contest for any political post in their state. Moreover, Ebonyi is an islamic state. Again, only PDP sagacity can make such possible. Some years back an Igbo man was also a ward councillor in plateau state

Tesh peters said...

There's nothing bad in it. I think there's a law in the constitution that allows an individual t contest in an elective position if the individual has stayed in that particular place for a specified number of years. I salute his courage

Jossy said...

You are daft and clueless. Who told you that Ebonyi is an Islamic state? Zombiiiiieeee

I'm from Anambra state.. now let me ask one good question... If some igbomen and ladies could be elected into Lagos State govt, House of assembly, local govt chairmen, adviser to governor in Lagos.. kaduna govt, Kano govt, even UK Parliament, swedish govt and so forth, why can't an hausaman be elected in igboland??? I disagree on this one... I salute the hausaman's uncommon courage and love for unity...

Anonymous said...

What is wrong in this. Isn't Nigeria Constitution provided for that. What is good or the goose is also good for the gender. That is what makes igbo people to be elected as Hon. Members of the House of Representatives from Lagos. Nigeria law provides for that.

annabelvinsaint said...

there are cases of Igbos contesting in other parts of country and sitting in their parliaments like Kano and Lagos, so why is his own case different, I totally welcome the idea. born and brought in ebonyi he has every constitutional right to contest.

Anonymous said...

See ibo people ranting
...hostile bunch of people. Is he not a nigerian or is ebonyi not part of nigeria? Whereas ibos are appointed as members of Lagos state house of assembly, Commissioners, special advisers, baba ojas, even representing Lagos in federal house of representatives.
This underscores the major reason nigeria hasn't grown.
People need to be more hospitable & tolenrant.

IF HE HAVE LANDED PROPERTIES AND LIVE WITH HIS FAMILY THERE , THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. BUT HE MUST HAVE LANDED PROPERTIES THERE.

That's why I dislike Ibos. You can come to the north and south to shine but you don't want anybody from another zone to shine in your place. You people are full of hate and Na u call God pass. That is why his silent to your stupid Biafra.

How I wish the people of this area will rally round this man and elect him to the position. If he is capable there is no reason he should not occupy the position just because he is hausa. Abeg, let's try and do things differently and see whether the country can change for good.

You can't help but wonder the minds and thoughts of some IBO people . Imagine if the IBOs has what it takes to change the course in this country..... No other tribes will rise , the more we clamour for unity in diversity, the more these seeds of hatred will continue to perpetrate their hatred for whatever is progressive ...... One begins to Wonder if our IBO friends really really love us just the way we do for them. The Hatred is REAL... These guys commenting rubbish could be capable of Genocide....

How on earth do you think you can have a United Nigeria when d guy from the north cannot or is not good enough for d Community where he grew up simply because he's a mallam but mind u we hv igbo ppl who are not yorubas in our Lagos state house of assembly this is a clear indication that you're only good for office if u're from that state this will be clearly noted.

The title of this thread/topic says "Nigerians are stunned by a northerner contesting in Ebonyi state", I would have expected a topic such as "Nigerians are stunned by the hateful reaction of the Igbos to a northerner contesting in Ebonyi state". Having been born on the northern region, there is no state in the north where an Igbo man has not been a member of the state legislature and LG chairmen, I'm just wondering why they would display this amount of hate because a Nigerian is contesting for what should be his fundamental right. The aggressors are always playing the victim. Always.

This kind of foolish tribalism is the problem with Ibos..Remember that there are Ibo office holders in Lagos and many ibos in Lagos public serve
