Press Statement from Chrisland Schools regarding sexual molestation accusation

If you missed the first story, read here. Read Chrisland's press statement below...
We wish to bring to the attention of the public that we were informed of the allegation of sexual assault of a two (2) year old child by Mr. Adegboyega Adenekan at one of our schools at the Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos following the press briefing today Wednesday, 30th November, 2016 by the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos State.

2.     Chrisland Educational Organization is a responsible institution having a history of almost forty (40) years of unblemished records in providing qualitative education and we are at a loss as to the present allegation against a Staff of the School, Mr. Adegboyega Adenekan.

3.     While the School does not hold the brief of the alleged abuser – Mr. Adegboyega Adenekan, who has been in police custody at the Ikeja Division since Thursday 24th November, 2016, we are compelled to state what we know and what we have done since becoming aware of the unfortunate allegation.

4.     The alleged sexual abuse of a child in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) branch of our Schools, filtered to the Management of our Schools. The Class Teacher of the child, Mrs. Adejoke Erherhe, later informed the School Management in answer to a query, that the Mother of the child telephoned her on Thursday 10th November, 2016, to inquire if anyone had touched her daughter’s private part to which she responded in the negative.

5.     The Class Teacher also stated that the Mother of the child came to the School at VGC the next day, Friday, 11th November, 2016 with her child and met with her (the Class Teacher of her child). The Mother claimed that her daughter had been abused, but requested that the Class Teacher should not tell anyone as she did not want her daughter stigmatized.

6.     The Class Teacher could not keep the information to herself and therefore told her line Supervisor, Mrs. Cecilia Layiwola on the same Friday, 11th November, 2016. The line Supervisor informed a senior Supervisor, Mrs. Jumoke Bayo-Olupohunda on Saturday, 12th November, 2016. It was the senior Supervisor who informed the Head Teacher, Mrs. Angela Modebe on Saturday, 12th November, 2016.

7.     On Monday, 14th November, 2016, the Head Teacher invited the Mother of the Child for a discussion to enable her know what was said to have happened. The Mother of the child honoured the invitation. It was on the same Monday, 14th November, 2016, that the Head Teacher informed the School Management and a 3-man team comprising The Head of Human Resources, The Executive Assistant to the Managing Director and The Head of Quality Assurance of the Nursery School all from the Head Office of the Schools from Opebi visited the VGC School and met with the Mother of the child and the Head Teacher.

8.     At the meeting of Monday, 14th November, 2016, the Mother brought a copy of report from The Heritage Specialist Clinic dated 11th November, 2016 addressed “To whom it may concern”, which said report concluded that “this baby has been abused”.

9.     It was agreed at that meeting of Monday, 14th November, 2016, that a second opinion be sought and Kids Care Paediatric Clinic located nearby and used by the VGC School from time to time for the medical needs of students was agreed upon and the child was taken there for examination. A report dated 14th November, 2016 addressed “To whom it may concern”, which appears to be “inconclusive on the subject” was issued.

10.  It was on Tuesday 15th November, 2016, that the Managing Director of the School, having made extensive inquiry as to the best medical facilities for a proper examination of the child, telephoned the Mother of the Child, with view of visiting her at home.

11.  During the telephone discussion it was suggested by the Managing Director of the Schools that an appointment has been booked with Mirabel Clinics at GRA, Ikeja and a Forensic Centre at Ogba, Lagos for Friday, 18th November, 2016 for the examination.

12.  On Thursday, 17th November, 2016, the Managing Director of the School received two phone calls, one from the Mother of the child and the other from the Father of the child who telephoned from the United Kingdom. Both of them objected to a further medical examination of their child at Mirabel Clinics or at the Forensic Centre.

13.  On Friday, 18th November, 2016, the School directed that a Staff of the School, Mr. Emem Obobo should make a report to the Nigeria Police at Ajah at Area “J” Command, and that the said Staff was informed that at the Area Command of the Nigeria Police, oral reports are not accepted and that a letter should be written to the Area Commander for the matter to be handled.

14.  On Saturday, 19th November, 2016, that the Managing Director of the School with 2 Management Staff visited the Mother of the child and assured her that the School would do everything possible to seek to know what happened to her child and reassured her of necessary support in this regard.

15.  On Monday, 21st November, 2016, a formal written report was made by the School to the Police through the office of the Area Commander, Area “J” of the Nigeria Police, Ajiwe, Ajah, Lagos.

16.  It was while the School was waiting to hear from the Police at Ajah, that the School got a request from the Ikeja Division of Nigeria Police to produce the alleged abuser – Mr. Adegboyega Adenekan and that the School promptly did so on Thursday 24th November, 2016 and that one Gloria from the Office of Public Defender who gave her telephone number as 08129460792 was present with the Mother of the Child on that day and every day since then, except on Sunday, 27th November, 2016.

17.  The School has since the 24th day of November, 2016, sent senior Management Staff to the Police at the Ikeja Division of the Nigeria Police and have cooperated fully with the ongoing investigations by producing documents and other Staff members required for interrogation, some of whom were detained and later released on bail to their families.

18.  On Monday, 28th November, 2016, the Police paid a visit to our VGC School in furtherance of the ongoing investigations and we have been made to understand that the Mother of the child has been persuaded to take the child and has since taken the child for medical examination at the Mirabel Clinics.

19.  We remain committed to seeing the process through.

20.  We do not know why it took the Mother of the child over two (2) weeks to notify the School of the matter, we feel concerned as the Mother of child is literate and is said to be a media practitioner and should know that the earlier the matter is handled, the better for everyone.

21.  We are also concerned that the Mother of the child is said to have sent a text message to the alleged abuser – Mr, Adegboyega Adenekan in the following terms –
“Thank you for the audience. As we discussed 1) that one 2) as I said. (3) my daughter must not be physiologically affected. You must remain friendly with her, she must not feel you changed to her as a result of her confiding in me cos I know she hold you on high esteem”.

22.  While we are disheartened by this matter, we once again wish to assure the general public that we as an Institution have no intention to cover-up any person in relation to the matter.

23.  Immediately the School got to know of the allegation, Mr. Adegboyega Adenekan  was made to be reporting at the head office in Opebi, Ikeja in order to enable the School have him within sight and to ensure that he was reporting daily so as to avoid a situation that he cannot be found. We believe that the School has done its best in ensuring that Mr. Adegboyega Adenekan and all other persons who have been invited by Police have been produced and that we shall continue to do our best.

24.  The Police will also inform the general public that we have done nothing to interfere or undermine the ongoing investigations as we are out to get the truth of the matter.

25.  The School Management and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the School who have been already informed of the matter are not adverse to meeting with relevant Government Agencies and Organizations even as we await the report of Police investigations.

26.  The School Management shall continue to do all in her power to ensure the safety and wellbeing of her pupils and students.

Thank you.

Anike Oye (Mrs.)
Director of Administration

Na wa. The child's mum must be really sick upstairs.

What took her 2 weeks to report the matter to the school? What sort of useless text message did she send to the teacher ? Is she dating the man or what? Which sane woman sends such text to a man alledged to have abused a child in a school?

There's more to this case than the girl's mum is revealing.

Stupid Stories from the school. Why are they making excuses?? I dont even want to hear the Mother's side. I would have arranged for the man to be castrated on the street!!!! What nonsense!!

This school is outrageously expensive!! Why do they not have CCTV cameras littered all over the place to ensure things like these are captured first hand?? With all the money they are collecting?? The secretary my friend once met there was extremely rude and asked her who she thought she was when celebrities had their children in attendance.

And see them trying to implicate the mother of the Child!!! A confused mother who did not know what to do in other not to hurt the child further of affect her self esteem?? I would sue your asses to hell and back!!

I am Livid!!

This is serious and Why would a Mother Hide such .. its not that the Child is grown to be stigmatised or doesn't she know that the said Molester will do that to other Children or has been doing it... Na wah for Nigerins O.
That Molester would hv been Jailed for years abroad after thorough investigations not cover Cover Naija thing. . I like the way the school took it cause the guy might do worst later on... over to Nigeria Police.. make Una do una job well cyz this is a 2yo girl 4 crying out loud.

If the man is not the teacher and the teacher also claimed the alleged abuser does not teach the girl at what point is the man seeing the girl.

Is he dating the mother that she will be sending him such text? Is it possible the abuse took place in her home and not the school. What quid ancestors and counselling does a 2 years old child need?? Or was that the set up they used for the husband so the teacher can come to their house?. Is the school bus supervised by two nannies? Are the children left unattended in the bus? Are there male relations in the house where the child lives? Something is fishy between the mother and the alleged abuser. Read the first story from him.

The school authorities are very dumb. why are they shying away from the real issue (sexual abuse) and dwelling on what the mother did or did not do. God forbid neither of us knpw how we would react if we get such report from our wards. The schools hospitals result was inconclusive, to me that indicates that its likely and based on the time frame between the day the act was done and when the second hospital carried out its examination the lil girl could have been healing already. Conclusive results are easier to get when the examination is done early. Why do they want to subject the lil girl to another round of examination again? Selfish people see them trying to put blames on the mother instead of facing facts.

The abuser should be transported to kirikiri

Ur talking absolutely nonsense. U must be an hemophrodiate. Ur neither a male or female. Cos if u are, there is nothing to be confused about here. No sane man or woman will notice such a abuse on his/her child and keep quite for a whole 2 weeks and worst yet send such ridiculous unbelievable unthinkable text to his/her child's abuser to remain friends with the child. Are u kidding me? Pls ge ur head examined.

My exact thought..... Wat kinda message did the mum send to the teacher???? Really??...

tony mike said...

This case is complicated. How did they know it was the accused that abused the child, what sort of message did the mom of the child send to the accused? Why did they refuse the forensic examination that would have proven so helpful and why didn't she report immediately to the school or police, reporting after two whole weeks is too naive of the woman and they should look into this case very well. Something is seriously fishing.
I read some people passing judgment on the accused remember this words "allegedly accused" so till he is to be found guilty of the crime don't castrate
him Like someone wrote.
Linda my comment yesterday you didn't post it
why? On toke Makinwa's book.

tony mike said...

Hey you! Are you passing judgment based on ur hatred for the school? The school told their own side of the case and u are here screaming. The accused is still innocent until proven otherwise. So no need to castrate anyone on the street. Something happened let them investigate first before you start whining. I can see you learnt a new word Livid that's why you chose to rant so as to add it. Make thunder wey dey gym d do press up no fire u oo. (In odega's voice)

Thanks man. Forget these people concluding the case before it gets started

See stupid written all over your face and life when you have a child you will wake up.

Hmmm! The testimony of a 2 year old is hardly what I would consider valid enough to base the accusations of the suspect on.

I would also advise that more medical tests and examination be carried out on the girl to ascertain the fact of the matter so that we all don't end up castigating an innocent man.

The recent case of the Queen's College teacher that was subjected to investigation and public opprobrium for sexually abusing an anonymous student of his is still fresh on my mind.

After all of the humiliation and possibly career ending experience, the man was cleared of all of the allegations by the Police, the Ministry of Education and the Lagos State government.

In my opinion, trying and convicting someone on social media especially when you do not have all of the facts of the case is tantamount to a public lynching because whatever credibility such a person might have had is left in shreds after the ordeal, even if the person is eventually cleared and vindicated.

well is very unfortunate.but the fact here is that who is saying the truth?lets not be in a hast to pass judgment what should be investigated too is to know if the accused at any time be in a secret place with the little girl. also the school should put camera in every classroom to really know what is happening there.it is a very sad story.

You are obviously emotional about this but stupid. It is people like you that do jungle justice to innocent people. Very disgusting person. What proof do you have that the man molested the kid before the castrating? May you not have to face judgment on a matter without getting the chance to be heard. AMEN.

Does this child have other adults around her at home? like maids , drivers, cooks? Maybe her parents should explore other options. How well does the mother know her staff?

You cannot say that the teacher did anything wrong because you do not know if the woman is trying to frame the man or bring down the image of the school

The statement made sense until I got to no 20. Why attempt to blame the mother cos as per your time line the first report you got of this incident was 11th. The letter you sent to the police was dated 24th Nov. That's 13 days. The mother isn't the only one responsible for reporting the matter to the police. As his employer, surely you'd like to know that none of your staff is misusing their access to the kids. That statement was totally unnecessary

I know the school very well and know for a fact that they have CCTV everywhere but not in the toilet for privacy do you want everybody private parts to be seen woman because you are jealous that you cannot afford the school fees don't show prejudice towards the school but the law of karma would catch up with the mother of the child she would not go unpurnished

I feel ashame at the way the school is trying to make the public thing it is doing its duty. I stay in vgc and know now facts about the case. The school tried to protect the abuser. They initially refused to accept that the man could have done this. It was only after the matter was reported at the ikeja police did they take it serious. Is the school denailing that it partake in the examination that took place in Maryland.? What was the report of that visit? Why did they allow such a person have access to babies kept under their care?. How many of this case have they kept hiding from innocent parents? How many times did the police visited the school before the offender was produced 3 days after?

Kunle said...

Sad to hear a 2-year old girl was abused but I think the school did well. The reporting from the class teacher to the top is commendable. And why would the child's mum send a message to the girl's alleged abuser to remain friendly with her child...this got me confused.

Anonymous said...

This is a completely cooked up story. My children school in Chrisland and this person in question l have had the opportunity to interact with this supposed abuser. He does not teach any class talk-less of nursery section. He is in the lower primary section so does not have any business in that section. No male teacher has any business with the school bus. Please let this woman go have her head examined. What she is talking about is not Chrisland School VGC.

Anonymous said...

I think there is something the woman is hiding. She should also be investigated and everyone living with her. Any mother in her right sense would not wait a day before scattering the school. A thorough and complete investigation should be made.

Just wondering....
1. If the supervisor does not teach or look after the child, how and why did the mother have his phone number? Or where did she get it from?
2. Are toddlers taught sex education in schools these days? Are they matured enough to comprehend?
3. What exactly is the relationship between the accused and the family of the child?

You are very sick and shallow minded like the mother of the child. I doubt if you can afford to live in VGC and definitely you are one of those that have your eyes on Chrisland but could not afford it. Obviously, you don't have any fact about the case so keep quite else you will partake in the wrath and judgement of God.
