Wait, this can happen in Nigeria, or they trusted him because he's white?

Marek is a Polish-born Lagos based former MD of Jovago. He narrated how a cashier at Shoprite Jakande allowed him to pay for 200k worth of goods from home after the POS failed.

After he shared the story, some Nigerians said he was given the courtesy because he is white and that if it had been a Nigerian, the cashier wouldn't have agreed. However some Nigerians took the opportunity to narrate the different good experiences they've had with cashiers in the past.

Nigerians are not trust worthy that's why. If a Nigerian had been given that concession, he would've bailed with the money.

I was having problems accessing my Nigerian account in ghana and I needed to, urgently. This guy who works at the bank (HFC) gave me two thousand four hundred dollars (2400) to do what I needed to do and pay back soon as I could get my own money. He'd never met me, didn't even take my number. It's been three years and I'm still stunned

White Supremacy is not exclusive to white people, anyone who looks up to white people, their gods and their integrity than that of their fellow Nigerian, is a wow supremacist, and you insult yourselves.

This has happened to me.once. goodies on oba akran in ikeja. Went there for a meal after Sunday mass and half way through I remembered I had changed my bag that morning and didn't carry my wallet. One of the waitresses paid for me that day and I went back there the following Sunday to pay her. She was even like is it because of this small money you came back. I was pleasantly surprised.

The point Marek raised is instructive. We should deepen the culture of trust. Sure it does exist but we need to deepen it. Like, if someone gives you that chance, share your story afterwards. Many are just afraid of being scammed because that's the stories that often make the rounds. I was once in a shop on Oxford Street in London where my debit card for some reason stalled at the point of paying for items in my shopping cart. We all know how embarrassing this can be, especially considering you are Nigerian. The couple right behind me had probably overheard my wife & I speaking a Nigerian language. He stepped up & offered to pay the over £400 worth of items. And all this while, no discussion had taken place between us. He noticed my embarrassment & reassured me we would settle issues later but first I needed to pay to keep the line moving. To cut a long story short, he paid for my shopping. I took his phone details, UK & Nigerian, and promised to refund the money in Nigeria on getting home. All this while, he never asked my name or seek further information about me. I 'forced' him to take my complimentary card. Fortunately, my card came alive the next day after I called my bani in Nigeria and I was able to withdraw money and take it to him at his hotel. He and I are from different ethnic stock. Unfortunately, we didn't hv the social media then & I was unable to share this till now.
Sorry if this na one na one long tory, but I thought it is not out of place to mention it.

It all depends on your personality in this country..

Obviously he was given that privilege because he's white...these won't happen to 90% of Nigerians, too many untrustworthy ones amongst us

No dear, not because he's white. I've met customers like him severally that I've helped. It's trust and nothing more, but it's very risky.

Nigerians are quick to point at racial differences; whereas, reading through the comments here alone; you can tell some would misuse the "golden offer". This year; we read about people who returned huge missing amount of money and more than half of our social media population insulted these "faithful ones" yet we want to compare ourselves to a culture where dignity and truth is highly glorified *sigh* No sir! No ma!

Listen carefully. It's a scam. The funds won't be remitted into d company's Acc. This happened to me in a store in d palms. I wanted to buy a vivien Westwood drivers n saw a price tag of 120k( not knowing d drivers was on sale 50%). Attendant says pos aren't working that I should get cash. I had 80k cash & he gave me an account to transfer d balance. We exchanged phone # but I knew it was too good to be true. D receipt was a dud one. Did my research n asked a friend to go to same store. It was then I realized d drivers was 60k. If it is too good to be true then it ain't true. U can know better than d scammer. #scammeralert# scammerwatch# #enorpossible#

A customer who shops for 200k worth of goods off a shelf,is not an ordinary customer.Besides, they must have profiled him.Wear a dread, wearing a sagged jean & see if they'll give you this privilege?

That cashier should be fired. Black, white, Asian, Latino, such practice is not practiced anywhere. Cash and carry all the way. It has nothing to do with trust.
