U.S. Govt expresses concern over deaths of Nigerians during clashes between police and Shia Muslims in Kano

The U.S Government has expressed its concern over the killings of Nigerians by police during the clashes between the police and Shia Muslims in Kano State last Monday.
A statement issued on Friday, November 18th, by John Kirby, U.S. Department of State's Assistant Secretary and spokesperson, said the Shia community have the right to assemble, peacefully express their religious beliefs, and mark their celebrations.
"The United States is deeply concerned by the deaths of dozens of Nigerians during clashes between individuals participating in a Shia procession and the Nigerian Police Force in Kano State on November 14, the statement reads.
"While the matter is still under investigation, we are troubled by the apparent disproportionate response by the police.  This is the latest in a series of violent incidents between security forces and members of the Shia Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), some of which have resulted in deaths, destruction of property, and the arbitrary detention of IMN members.
"The United States calls for calm and restraint on all sides, a reduction of tensions, and greater communication between Shia citizens and government authorities.
Members of the Shia community, like other religious communities, have the right to assemble, peacefully express their religious beliefs, and mark their celebrations.
"We call on the Nigerian government to protect and defend these rights. It is also incumbent on members of the IMN and all Nigerian citizens to respect the rule of law and cooperate with the police as they attempt to maintain public order.
"We continue to urge the government to ensure accountability for the deaths of more than 300 IMN members during December 15, 2015 clashes between the IMN and security forces in Zaria, Kaduna State.  We also call on the Nigerian government to conduct a transparent investigation of the latest incidents and bring to account anyone responsible for violating the law"

Irrespective of what happened or which side was right or wrong, what is the basis for such communique from the US govt to the Nigerian govt? Are they instructing us? Are we under some sort of colonization? What is the meaning of this frequent interference into other nation's affairs? Who made the US a watcher over Nigeria? Who made the US the police over the rest of the world? This overreaching attitude of the US is responsible for their feud with many nations in the world including a nuclear super power like Russia. The US had better watched it as this can be the source of a 3rd WW. Anyway, thankfully, the incoming US administration is a nationalist, and hopefully the US starts to mind its business going forward.

The shiites are not truly terrorists, the Sunni Buhari led govt don't want them to exist, however, the president wants them all wiped out, reason is that they re minority.. I wonder what happened to the freedom of worship

All this double standard is for what, when soldiers were killing unarmed IPOB what did they do. I am not in any way justifying any form of extrajudicial killing but there is a saying that said, when you're clearing the bush clear to the ground, so that when you set fire it will burn to the ground.

USA should mind their own business. What did Obama / USA do for Nigeria / Africa? How long did it take them to declare Boko Haram a terrorist group? Did the US not come to meet with the Northern governors only and one of their traditional rulers (in order to enthrone the north over all of Nigeria)? Did they not impose an arms embargo on Nigeria? Did they not prevent some other countries from selling arms to Nigeria in order to fight Boko Haram? and so on and so on. The US needs to get lost till Jan 20th '17. I can't wait for Trump to be sworn in so we can have less of this sort of hypocrisy.
