Presidency reacts to Senate’s rejection of Buhari’s $30bn loan request

The Presidency has said it will not dispute the decision of the Senate to reject the request of President Buhari to borrow $30 billion to fund some capital projects. The Senate during plenary yesterday, rejected the letter from President Buhari due to the absence of some documents from the presidency indicating what projects the borrowed money would be used to execute.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja after the rejection, Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Sen. Ita Enang, said that the Presidency would not be disputing with the senate but would rather engage with them on the issue that had been raised.

He added that the missing documents that gave rise for the rejection are being collated and would be sent to the Senate. ‎

“We are not disputing with the distinguished Senate. There are certain information and details which will enable them to consider in detail, and appropriately the request of Mr President. So we are collating that information. The Budget Office of the Federation, the Debt Management Office, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Minister of Finance and the economic team are collating the information so that it can be submitted to the Senate to enable them take the appropriate decision. We would be engaging the Senate. We will not be disputing with them but we will be engaging with them. When we present a matter before the legislature it is for them to consider and as they have considered, more information is needed and that information they are entitled to it and we would provide,” he said

Something i've observed with this administration is that one document must be missing in whatever damn thing they present. I remember the budget Ish.Who da hell checks these things before they get sent?

He cld react for all i care. People running public office ought to know that governance isnt run in secrecy, they own the citizens loadz of information, gov isn't a secret cult. So,we need to know exactly the source of the loan, the so called projects that the loan is meant for,the stipulated quotations, when and how the loan will be cleared. You dnt wake up from a slumber and propose borrowing and expect people to buy the idea. It's high time, things are done properly in this country!!!! #Sic

Better that's the way to go about it, supply them the requested documents, we need that money to help cushion the effects of this recession.

The missing documents were intentional. Do you think the presidency is so daft to send such proposal without those documents? They knew they will be public outcry should the Senate immediately approve their request so the made it in a way that will look like the Senate is with the public and when they finally send it those papers Senate will sign it and Nigerians won't talk much cos the Senate had once rejected it. It's just a psych thing.

Please, I want to ask, what about all the over trumpeted looted funds that have been returned, what and where are they that we need to even think of borrowing this kind of crazy amount of money, just to continue pressing Nigeria into the abyss of recession?

Thank God that some of our senators still have sense. Buhari should not mortgage the future of our country with his borrow borrow.........The most clueless and visionless government in his of our country, is this APC scam change evil government

Hmmmmmm!!!!!! E reach to ask, my brother. He has an ulterior motive. The recovered stolen funds are enough. The possed sale of National Assets so that is Nigerians object, they'll act like they're resorting to another option of
recovery from recession by borrowing. I tell you, this
recession is APC made as an avenue to make money and
put Nigeria at their mercy after they would have enriched
themselves and robbed Nigeria to bankruptcy. At that
time, they unleash their evil hidden terrorism agenda.
Nigerians be wise. They're securing money that they'll use to fight you but God is on the throne and won't let them succeed in Jesus' name, amen.
