Presidency hints Pres Buhari may run for a second term in 2019

Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, this evening hinted that President Buhari may run for a second term in 2019.
In a statement released Monday, Shehu said President Buhari Nigerians will not desert him come 2019. Garba said this in reaction to a statement made by Buba Galadima, a member of the defunct CPC, a party where President Buhari was a member. ‎Galadima had over the weekend said Nigerians would desert President Buhari during the 2019 election. Read Garba's response to Galadima after the cut...
A Presidential spokeperson, Mal. Garba Shehu has dismissed suggestions that the masses will desert President Buhari in 2019 as unfounded and utterly ridiculous, and asserted that ordinary Nigerians are the backbone of his mandate and the only reason he ran for the office is to protect them against the rapacious merchants of corruption, who have held Nigeria back for decades. Reacting to allegations by a former CPC member, Alhaji Buba Galadima that President Buhari would be abandoned by the people in 2019, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said Galadima's calculation and prediction is utterly confused and misleading.

He said the masses are solidly behind Buhari because he is not stealing their money and their future, that the President's enormous goodwill remains ever strong because the people are convinced the President is acting in their best interest, despite the temporary unintended consequences of reforms.

President Muhammadu Buhari is far from isolation. He enjoys a very strategic relationship with ordinary Nigerians. This relationship is as solid a the proverbial rock. If Buba Galadima thinks that because he has no role and no job in this government that means president is isolated he is putting himself up to ridicule.

According to him, Galadima cannot speak for the masses as far as their steadfast loyalty to Buhari is concerned. While acknowledging that Galadima was entitled to advance his own political agenda, Malam Garba said Galadima didn't have the right to decide for ordinary voters.

Malam Garba Shehu recalled that Buba Galadima's disagreement with President Buhari was based on principle. He explained that President Buhari is committed to level playing field and would not want anyone to link his name to injustice.

The Presidential media aide said Galadima's disagreement with Buhari started in 2011 when a group within the party, orchestrated an organizational mess by which the CPC embarked on the imposition and substitution of candidates for cash payments at the expense of those duly and democratically elected.

He said Muhammadu Buhari was embarrassed by the incidents and complaints about the imposition and substitution of candidates, adding that he, as a democrat, would not suppress the will of the people to please selfish interests. Consequently he dispensed with the service, such as they are, of Buba Galadima; ran and won the 2015 Elections without them. Let Buba Galadima go to his constituency, stand for election and see what will happen to him, concluded Mal. Garba Shehu.

It's expected he'll vie for the office in 2019 same with his predecessors in the past. However, he has to perform beyond expectation to win the heart of the masses before 2019. Till then, Let's see what happens.

Buhari has proven by his actions that he has no plans for Nigeria with his bad policies. At this rate lets hope there will still be a place called Nigeria by 2019.

Greed and thirst for power is what will be the undoing of this old man

Early campaigns for President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term when he is yet to assume control of his first is ill-conceived.

For those conversant with leadership in Nigeria, it is obvious that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration is struggling to drive radical changes, particularly in the fight against corruption. Although not a few people around the world had commended this government for the initiative taken in the fight against corruption, there is a general assumption that the initiative is already defective through its selective disposition.

For some, one term tenure of four years is not long enough to effectively actualise the Buhari leadership agenda, which some say could revive Nigeria economically at the long run, but the bone of contention is, is President Buhari playing the politics of second term at all? If so, is he doing it as though he is learning from history?
In my own opinion, this is a waste of time.Buhari has danced his dance and we've seen that he's got nothing to offer just like his predecessor. It will be foolhardy for him to think that he will win the next elections

In her recent intervention, the First Lady, Aisha Buhari noted that if her husband seeks a second term she may not campaign for him. Though not many reacted to her anticipation that her husband may seek another term, the fact that his body language suggests that he might serve only for a term and quit, but the truth is that such critical interjections cannot be taken for grant

He his a joke, someone should advise buhari to just go home after this term to avoid embarrassment!i know his cohort would advise him to run again as to enable them remain in the office, but I bet them,no amount of rigging would sustain them in that office, buhari should go home because he would loose.

Garba Shehu should swallow that rubbish. Nigerians don't want another term of this evil scam change government. The incompetence of Buhari and his sawdust brain ministers is so obvious and heartbreaking. Nigerians should not allow this wicked people hoodwinked us with their lies and propaganda. The suffering and hardship on the streets is so pathetic and there's no hope in sight with this evil one chance change. Buhari has been advised several times by several people to drop some of his incompetent and clueless ministers but his deaf ears won't let him hear. So come 2019, he and his sawdust brain ministers should pack their useless selves out of government. We reject them unanimously.........bunch of morons

The way these folks say "ordinary Nigerians". Reminds me of speeches were some past leaders refer to Nigerians as "the masses". If Nigerians really decided who their President is; his cabinet or administration would probably not call Nigerians "ordinary". Maybe they would have called Nigerians: "Good Nigerians", "Great Nigerians", "Good people/citizens of Nigeria", "My brothers and sisters", etc. Lol.

Chukwudi Okorafor Ogba said...

This is probably why Nigerians end up calling their leaders funny names too lol.
Some leaders may then need to re-educate themselves on how to re-capture Nigerian hearts because Nigerians are busy being great after realising they are really great.
When Nigerians choose the leader that truly represents who they are or aspire to be; Nigerians will know they are great people, that do not need to insult leaders that they proudly voted for. Lol.
Good Nigerians will simply lead by good example lol, "bad" leaders have no choice but "go with the flow" if they must lead.
