Linda, trump is the next US president. He has won. Mehn. ..even though i always wanted him to win, it seemed a little hopeless to think he would ACTUALLY WIN! The man practically overcame all odds to win. Congrats to him.

I have learnt something. Never change yourself to achieve a goal. If you are destined to achieve that goal, you will. He won the presidency with his loud mouth. LOL.

Can emergency contraceptive pills cause birth defects?

No, emergency contraceptive pills ("morning after pills" or "day after pills") do not appear to cause any birth defects. Although no reliable studies have looked specifically at women who gave birth after using emergency contraception, strong reasons exist for concluding that emergency contraceptive pills will not harm a developing fetus.

In the case of progestin-only pills (like Plan B One-Step, Next Choice One Dose, or My Way), these pills contain the same hormones as many daily birth control pills, which a number of studies have found cause no increased risk of birth defects in children born to women who continued to take them because they didn’t realize they were pregnant. As a result, the United States Food and Drug Administration removed warnings about the possibility that oral contraceptives could harm a fetus several years ago. In addition, even if you don’t realize you are pregnant, you would take emergency contraceptive pills long before the organs would start to develop (a process called “organogenesis”), making it extremely unlikely that emergency contraception would lead to birth defects.

In the case of ulipristal acetate (ella), data are limited, but post-marketing surveillance after widespread use in Europe suggests that the drug would not harm an existing pregnancy.

A thorough and up-to-date academic review of the medical and social science literature on emergency contraception is available; click here for the PDF .

I doubt if she is a registered/qualified nurse. Contraceptives are not known to be teratogenic in nature. This is a case of cleft lip with or without palate. The cause is largely unknown but the risk include cigarette smoking in pregnancy, obesity, older age, diabetes, antiseizure drugs e.t.c. hydrocephalus could be due to neural tube defect caused by folate deficiency perticularly in 1st trimester(this is why folic acid is important in early pregnancy),maternal hyperthermia e.t.c. dont misinform people please.

Linda it is a shame that you would even allow such ignorant post on your blog. People can you retweet this picture till the silly Nurse gets sued for sharing patient pictures without consent? Hydrocephalus is not caused by contraceptive pills. Ask google if you choose to. Posting this picture with the accompanying message is soooo wrong

God bless you for this my sister... many people die because of ignorance. Meanwhile they have phone and data, rather that research and confirm they will swallow anything that comes out of d mouth of uneducated people- which I'm sure this nurse is one of.

The baby has congenital abnormality , it has nothing to do with contraceptive pill. Contraceptive pill which is popularly known as birth control pill don't cause birth defect because it has no tetratogenic agents in it.

I hope she's being sued. How can you share such online the day it happened. You a nurse takes your phone into the labour room and start taking pictures of your patients baby.
The things that happen in Nigeria still amazes me. What about your patients confidentiality? This is sickening.

Maybe she took permission from the owner of the baby before sharing it on social media. Let's look at the message she is trying to pass to the public first before criticising her. At least, she didnt mention the name of the parents. Nigerians, una blood too dey hot sef. Haba! Body too dey pepper una. She is trying to educate women not to take contraceptives while pregnant. Learn from the message she is passing across instead of jumping into conclusions to condemn her. Naija una own too much sef. Ghosh!

Youths use condom instead of contraceptive or better still, wait until you get married before having sex. Una don hear??

anonymous said...

I don't think this is possible bcs I was placed on contraceptives when I was pregnant not knowing I was pregnant already and I had d pills for a month and my dora came out very very ok. PS the pill was to correct my cycle.

ade rinboye said...

I guest she is an auxiliary nurse not a registered nurse/qualified nurse because contraceptive pills cannot cause birth defect

Anonymous said...

What is the scientific proof that says it was contraceptives???!
