Execution of a Nigerian in Singapore, heartbreaking - Abike Dabiri-Erewa

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa has described the execution of a Nigerian in Singapore on Friday for drug related offences as heartbreaking.

In a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Abdur-Rahman Balogun in Abuja said that the planned execution was heartbreaking despite repeated warnings to Nigerians to obey the laws of the land of their host countries.

Dabiri-Erewa said since Singapore determined to enforce its laws as a deterrent to drug trafficking, which has reduced as a result of its stringent capital punishment , nothing much can be done
"While we regret the death of the Nigerian, we once again appeal to Nigerians to avoid crimes like drug trafficking with most countries especially in Asia declaring zero tolerance for drug trafficking.", Dabiri-Erewa stated.

She reiterated her appeal to Nigerians to avoid drug peddling in their host countries as laws of countries, whether acceptable or not, will be difficult to influence.
A Nigerian, Chijoke Obioha was caught in Singapore trafficking in hard drugs on December 30, 2008 with his execution slated for Friday November 18.

Obioha was arrested with more than 2.6 kilograms of cannabis, surpassing the statutory amount of 500 grams presumed as drug trafficking in Singapore on April 9, 2007
The Amnesty International had called on Singapore to immediately halt Friday’s planned execution of Chijoke Stephen Obioha, a Nigerian national on death row for possession of drugs.

Obioha’s family was informed that his appeal for clemency has been rejected.

Rafendi Djamin, Amnesty International’s Director for South-East Asia and the Pacific, said: “The Singapore government still has time to halt the execution of Chijoke Stephen Obioha. We are dismayed that clemency has not been granted in his case, but remain hopeful that they won’t carry out this cruel and irreversible punishment against a person sentenced to the mandatory death penalty for a crime that should not even be punished by death. “

"The death penalty is never the solution. It will not rid Singapore of drugs. By executing people for drug-related offences, which do not meet the threshold of most serious crimes, Singapore is violating international law.
A Nigerian, Chijoke Obioha was caught in Singapore trafficking in hard drugs on December 30, 2008 with his execution slated for Friday November 18.

Obioha was arrested with more than 2.6 kilograms of cannabis, surpassing the statutory amount of 500 grams presumed as drug trafficking in Singapore on April 9, 2007.
Under Singaporean law, when there is a presumption of drug possession and trafficking, the burden of proof shifts from the prosecutor to the defendant.

This violates the right to a fair trial by turning the presumption of innocence on its head. Drug-related offences do not meet the threshold of the “most serious crimes” to which the use of the death penalty must be restricted under international law.

International law also prohibits the imposition of the death penalty as a mandatory punishment and Amnesty International opposes the use of the death penalty outright, regardless of the crime. ####

Sex With My New Step Brother PART 3 (25+)

4pm already and Festus is not here, I was so disturbed and annoyed, I was already going crazy, I was already horny, very horny, I’ve never been horny like this in my entire life. I needed sex so badly, I’m already regretting that I used the stupid drug. I tried calling Festus but he’s not reachable, he’s number is not available.

Do you know the feeling of being disappointed after so Much preparation, I’m sure you know the feeling of being disappointed especially when it comes to sex, when you’ve already planned to have sex but it didn’t happen. The konji that was battling with me that day was terrible. It 5pm already, I heard the door bell, come and see the way I rushed out of my room, immediately I came out of my room, Daniel also rushed out of his room too, we jammed each other... What sense does it make that the senior special assistant will be speaking through her special assistant in a matter of such magnitude. What really does these special assistants do if they have their own special assistants? Most likely, this lady did not make any effort in regard to the condemned Nigerian in Singapore. All she could do is to give advise to Nigerians traveling to other countries as if they don't know the consequences of any action they take. When almost every administration that takes over in Nigeria outdo the other on stealing, what hope or future is left for the citizens? This is the reason why many people travel out in the first place: because there is no future for them in their own country. People like you who earn big salary doing nothing, and are in that position not because you merit it, but because of the people you know, is what is driving many Nigerians to early grave. So take your advise to the senators and ministers who are serving their belly and families. Tomorrow you will say it is the igbos who are spoiling Nigeria name overseas, but these same igbos, you block them and become an impediment to their growth. Take for example, Nigeria defense academy ( NDA), why are you afraid to give Igbo's admission as hausas are given?

The solution to the problem lies in the hands of Nigerians involved in this shameful act, especially some greedy and lazy Igbo men in diaspora with the get rich quick syndrom. Our diplomats in those countries are as idle as a stagnant water. They don't even organise any sort of orientation for Nigerians in those countries. Work hard legitimately.

Will u blame him,the situation in the country is alarming.the hardship is just too much.for almost three months now I have been looking for who to loan me some moni with little or no interest to support my business.I have children to feed and pay fees, yet I can't see who to loan me.if I see an opportunity to carry drugs,to steal or even prostitute, won't I do it.may his soul rest in peace

@ freeborn you are a big fool and dumb.
1.you lack exposure cause if not you would have know that the present regime were not in power when he was arrested it was your brother that has no shoe nor does he know if stealing and corruption are the same.
2.stop been a tribalistic fool cause it is ibo people names we have been reading for drup peddling so get your fact right you can never see a hausa man doing that and even if you hear yoruba name it will be 5% out of 100%.
So Abike is doing her job and i see nothing wrong in what she said cause your brothers knew the consequences of their deeds and they still go ahead, almost all asia says no to drup peddling so no mercy and nothing anyone can do to change their policy

Death sentence for weed??? Haba¡

Anonymous said...

Abike Dabiri is either insincere or stupid. What does she mean by heartbreaking? Has she reached out to Singapore to ask them to send the convicted fellow to Nigeria? No. Try and execute a singapoream in Nigeria and you will see the whole diplomatic community descend on Buhari's head. Abike does not know how other countries remove their nationals from Singapore's death cells? They just carry arrest warrant there with extradition request that the person is wanted for trial in their own country for another offence. Singapore will deport the condemned man to his own country. Shikena. But Abike will be blabbing while they kill a Nigerian. Kontinu

I regret being a Nigerian. Thunder go fire anyone who support this young man to be sentenced by hanging. God please rescue and have mercy on him. This guy has been detained since 2008 and this should due for whatever punishment Singapore would impose. I plead on the Amnesty International to be swift to boycott this irreversible punishment tomorrow being Friday. Let them find reasons to pardon him. All sympathizers should please pray from now till tomorrow being Friday for God's intervention. Death sentence to such an offence is not the total remedy to Drug trafficking.

It's been like this for the Igbos before the economic downturn! Stop blaming everything on the government. He was arrested in 2007!

There is nothing worse than Igbo people, who weapons. The army is for protection of the nation, not a training ground for potential dissenters and "freedom fighters".

That's the lesson of history, and that's why even Germany's army is near non-existent.

Anonymous said...

The fact that you're even talking about the Army, in itself, shows a predisposition to violence, which makes you unsuitable for it's purpose.
