Yes... Stuffs like this still happen in the 21st century. In Zulu land is South Africa at mid september every year, there is a festival called the Royal Reed Festival that have naked virgin girls dance before the king. The king sometimes uses the opportunity to choose a new wife. Check it out online.

Well this happens to be my home town and this festival is call the Age grade festival or the Manhood celebration. Reason why its called the manhood celebration is this; if one should die before celebrating this festival, its forbidden to hold any form of social gathering on his or her funeral, such a copse is buried without any social activities..

This festival is ccelebrated every four years and attracts tourist from all over the country. It will interest you to know that Basketmouth and I Go Dye graced this festival 4 years ago.

For the semi unclad ladies... First of all they are not forced to go unclad. In fact they take pride in it. They do it on their own volition just to tell the world they are still virgins. They are not stupid or foolish, they are just proud of who they are..

The Osiki brothers are respected academic enigma's who are well schooled and well travelled. I celebrate with them.

You all claim to be in a modern age to forget your roots, am not surprised cos majority of u just claim to be from a place where u know nothing about ur heritage...

The ceremony is not only a manhood celebration. It is for both men and women. Men and women of a certain age grade celebrate their coming of age in the community. meaning they can take part in certain decision making in the land. The display of half naked girls is not to boost the ego of the men but a prerequisite maidens had to fulfil in ancient times before they get married. The celebrant, in this case, has not posted pictures of his female age-mates and has tagged the ceremony manhood celebration hence the confusion.

It is a beautiful ceremony where the age grade (male and female)parade in different attires and are accompanied by their families and friends and some choose to have young girls wear the ¨OZE¨ for a number of days. While the festival in itself is beautiful the parade of half naked girls is just a small part of it. It is not necessary for those celebrating (men and women) to have girls wear the OZE if they don´t want. It is very optional

Beautie Efe Obaika said...

This celebration is done every 4years for men n women between the age of 40 - 45 while maidens dress in mental costume call Oze will beads n local tattoos for the celebration. For more enquiry asap me to enlighten u what's all about ie the advantages n disadvantages. For people making odd comments ve u not witness calabar n some western carnival that re similar to this?

Anonymous said...

If they try this tradition in the North, the sharia law in the North will stone the half naked girls to death because they dont expose their bodies in the North

Ideyeunma said...

So sorry to blow the whistle here...it was not 2001, it was 2002. Get ur facts right, don't just come on here and blab.
