#JungleJustice - How an innocent young man almost got lynched by a blood-thirsty mob in Nigeria

Jungle Justice is quite rampant in some parts of Nigeria, #ALUU4  for instance, and a lot of innocent people have lost their lives in such attacks, without even getting a slight chance to explain themselves. This twitter user shared her brother's experience in Abuja and it's a must read. Continue below.

I've had a similar experience oo.. Sometime, when I was still on my NYSC, I was travelling Osun, where I was posted, and when we got to my busstop, I alighted from the bus and took my bag, unknown to me that it was merely a look alike bag, not my precise bag. I was standing on d road, waiting for a cab to come so as to continue my journey when a group of boys rushed me speaking yoruba which I did not understand, and were pointing at my bag and shouting thief! I did not expect that they were referring to me, however, before I could even blink an eye, blows and punches began landing on my face. Even elderly women came out and were screaming that I should be beaten more mercilessly even though I was already bleeding all over. Maybe the people could not understand English but they did not listen to my confused cries. What saved me was that I had my NYSC ID card in my pocket. While they were beating me and trying to strip me naked, one of them dipped hand into my pocket and brought out my wallet and found my NYSC ID card and asked the others to stop. I was already on the ground, bleeding profusely from everywhere. That was when they listened to what I had to say, and not too long after, the bus returned with my own bag which was an exact look alike of the one I had mistakenly carried, and everybody began apologising to me, but I was already badly injured and bleeding, and my clothes were already torn to shreds. I did not know who to blame in the crowd, but I was grateful to have my life, and not be lynched for nothing sake, in a foreign land, by a senseless mob! That day I realized that mob violence is a harrowing, near-death experience which nobody should be made to pass through!

When will this country stop being a real crazy country of ignorant bloodthirsty lunatics. The real thieves who are occupying political offices and stealing billions of dollars everyday are allowed to enjoy their loot while innocent hardworking people are butchered for nothing.
Glory be to God for the life of your brother.

Thank God for his deliverance for this poor guy. I tell you the truth, of our justice system in Nigeria is not as porous and eternally long with bottlenecks here and there, cases of Jungle Justice will be reduced. www.chinekedblog.blogspot.com

Even if someone is guilty it is not an excuse for jungle justice!!! Who even determines how guilty someone is except the police/courts? Even hoodlums now use it to threaten people. Imagine my friend went to a shop years back in Aba to mend his shoes and bargained with the cobbler for a specific amount after the cobbler was done with his work, on paying the amount agreed on, the cobbler refused and changed "mouth" saying that it was not what they agreed on. An argument ensued and the cobbler threatened mob action on him. Told him that if you don't pay me I would raise an alarm and tell "Umu boys" that you came to steal from me. Out of fear, he had to pay to save his life. This was when we were just coming out of the era of bakassi boys. In many mob lynching cases, the victims are innocent. Let us stop taking laws into our hands. Thank God the bill for it has passed second reading at the Senate.

Nigeria is a very sick country. The hearts of people are like stone. You would be shocked to know the usual instigator in-chief would rather continue fuelling the storm than admit he may have been wrong. Some of them just dissappear after causing such murderous mayhem.

Hmmm! It is well. May God help us. Thank God for sparing his life. May the souls of the lost through these wickedness rest in Perfect peace and may their loved ones be comforted in Jesus' name, amen.

Your written english makes it hard to understand your comments. You really should take English more seriously. Additionally, all that asterix thing you've got going on is not funny. #NoBeef.

This same thing happened to my girl friend when she was in uniport. She bought earrings and mistakenly took a single one and then she realised and then went back to return it. All of a sudden the seller said thief. In a twinkle of an eye someone brought pliers and started cutting her dress to strip her, she was injured in the process. Only God saved her oo. Lots of blood thirsty animals around us

That Ada is a fool. Why must she say it was Igbo people that were saying that her brother is a thief? Her brother is a one chance guy claiming to be going to Japan. Let him try that nonsense again and c what happens to criminals.

You blood thirsty animal! even if he were a one chance guy would that warrant you to kill him? how do you feel spilling someone else's blood and then go home and sleep peacefully? you kill someone you would also be killed. most of you afterwards go to church on Sundays it is appalling. I had an experience and i was beaten by a mob of 'CHRISTAIN MOTHERS' at St Jude catholic church in Port harcourt. my crime? i sat on the chair close to where they were having a meeting. and then i moved my chair a bit and one was like single girl are you not seeing married women having meeting here? and one mentioned she must be a witch! i responded to her how can you say such and you are in church, before i could finish she slapped me. i was startled and jumped out of my chair and lo and behold all of them pounced on me beating and stripping me IN THE CHURCH ! It was a lady who was passing by on the street that came to save me. I was extremely confused. that day, I left the catholic church for good. Jungle justice is a serious case in this country and should be taken seriously. #justice for ALUU4# May their gentle souls and all other innocent ones lost through this violence rest in peace amen.
