Saraki defends his suggestion that FG should sell national assets to revive the economy

Senate President this morning released some of his recommendations on what the Federal govt needs to do to immediately get out of the present economic recession. Part of his recommendations is for some of the national assets should be sold off. Many Nigerians feel this is not a good move and should not be accepted.

Defending his suggestion, Saraki said it would be better for Nigeria to sell off her assets than borrow money from the International community. See the reactions from Nigerians and Saraki's defense after the cut...

I don't need to be an economist to know that selling our assets is a bad move. This should only come as a last resort. In this case, we still have the option of borrowing.
These people shouldn't give out our future coz of economic recession. We need presbyopic leaders not myopic ones

In as much as I subscribe to selling of some things managed by government, we should be careful not to enslave ourselves.

Mr Livingstone, a suggesting you are unaware of the true facts of a govt without laws. Pls in what way has the law been impeded? to call a leader a tyrant is to place the facts before the table. as for selling assets i think it is best we cut down the law makers first. A country in recession should cut down excesses

Good suggestion...lets start with the national house of assembly.

But any money realized will immediately disappear into a black hole.

Let start from Saraki himself to return all money stolen from societe-general bank and sell all his il-gotten wealth.

This suggestion clearly shows Nigerian leaders especially the NASS is Nigeria's no.1 enemy. Sell those assets, Saraki and his cronies will buy them through the backdoor and then loot the funds realized from the sales through the frontdoor. Heartless Saraki is now indirectly calling for the sale of Nigeria.

Olushola Olufolabi said...

Selling the assets its the only way to go presently. But like the saying goes its not the load you carrying that hurts its the way you are carrying it. The government should be legally compelled not to sell it to a group of people or entities like they did nepa. The shares should be sold to the general public, farmers, market women etc like china did. If not it will just be asset stripping like Jimoh Ibrahim did to Nicon Insurance and others did to Ajaokuta steel. Sell to the 'ordinary public' and actually preserve the collective wealth of the nation.

Has he (Saraki) recommended that their pay at NASS be cut? Has he & Dogara cut down the size if their unreasonable aides? Have they sold the multi million jeeps they bough? Saraki lacks the moral right to profer solution to economic recession because he's part of the causeof the problem,
