Photos/Video: Hundreds of unemployed youths fall for a fake recruitment advert in Lagos

Hundreds of unemployed Nigerian youths today fell for a fake recruitment advert sent out via Whatsapp. A fake message was drafted and sent out by a prankster, claiming that people who have a B.sc and are interested in a 80k salary paying job at a call center in Guaranty Trust Bank plc, should come for an interview by 9am in VI, Lagos. People thought it was true and hundreds of youths, even from outside Lagos, came formally dressed but were shocked to find out it was a hoax. See tweets explaining more on what happened and a video, after the cut.

Haha! I don't blame them one bit, if buhari had provided job opportunities and eradicated unemployment like he promised, Nigerian graduates won't even be falling for an 80k job even if it was real.. God takeover!

Na me talk am!

Long Live Lib!!!

Am a mother with 2 graduate men. When I saw this post in my WhatsApp this morning cos I didn't even time to browse yesterday.... I started shouting for them, asking them what they do on their WhatsApp that made them missed such opportunity! They did not mind me but my second son said "mummy it's a scam" I responded"even if it's a scam, why not try it out first" Right now after reading this update, I felt very sad. It's humiliating and disheartening trying to cash in on people's unemployment situation.

Heaven will question everyone that voted buhari...

U're one of the reasons scams like this are successful, when youths no longer use their brain to reason well. So Buhari should provide jobs? Can he employ everyone? Or the immigration scam during Jonathan's tenure was buhari's fault too?... Our graduates need to b more careful Ib their pursuit for employment mehn

If this happened in the USA or other digitally controlled countries, the culprit would have been brought to books and scammers like him would learn a big lesson. What controls do the relevant telecoms & Internet regulatory bodies in Nigeria have in place to check such hoaxes? Has our federation law even been amended to accommodate this? If yes, we need awareness on this to guide our information communications. If no, we've got to get at it like yesterday! I guess the Minister for information can help us out here.
