Don’t sell NLNG, other national assets- RMAFC acting chairman advises FG

The Federal government has been advised against selling off National assets such as its shares in Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas ltd NLNG and other assets, as a way of getting out of the current economic recession.

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, had in an interview with CNBC last week, advised the Federal government to sell off some of its National assets as part of measures to revive the economy.

In a statement released yesterday September 20th, acting Chairman of the  Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Shettima Abba-Gana, said it will be unwise for the government to sell off its key investment just to address its short-term financial crisis.

According to him, assets such as NLNG are some of the main revenue generators of the government.
"It is the considered view of the commission that Nigeria’s assets like NLNG and other strategic national resources should not be sold to meet short-term financial obligation”he said
According to Abba-Gana, the amount expected to be generated from the sale of some of the nations assets should could be borrowed from the International Monetary Fund.

Why would any sensible govt want to sell national assets, it's quite appalling. These assets are what probably keep this county at bay. Selling them isn't an option to consider. FG should come up with other suggestions!!!

They should come up with other solutions to salvage this monstrous recession they brought upon us by their senseless policies, other than selling our assets!!! ##EvilGovt

Don't sell National assets oo. Let them go else where. Assets are everywhere all over the World. The same money they stole from the Nation, is what they still want to use in buying the Nation's asset. Just imagine those moneys recovered by Efcc so far is being use to purchase our assets. What a joke! They should go and ask Dangote if he wants to sell his own assets and buy from. Peoples

Nigerians should understand diff between concessioning part of Asset Not total sale. what FGN is considering is concesssion just lease and it can take 5yrs or 20yrs.

Selling of our collective heritage would be more disastrous than the economy recession we find ourselves presently and the same people that advised FG to sell will come and buy it. I don't blame them cos they are investors and they want quick return on their investment. Pls it is not good to sell them let them keep their wrong advise to themselves

The thing is, if they sell, they will still end up looting the money so pls I say no to sale of national assets!
