Actor Kalu Ikeagwu releases statement on his arrest by the Nigerian Police

Yesterday, news broke that actor Kalu Ikeagwu was arrested by the police following a robbery and homicide case. He has released a statement stating what exactly happened. Read that below
Just to clear the air, I have this to say. I was literally abducted at gunpoint by earring wearing men purported to be policemen (they were five) in an unmarked Hiace bus with civilian number plates and fake identity cards. They first claimed to be working on an abduction Abuja case which changed to a robbery case, all while in transit.
Even on getting to the police station I was not allowed to go in to the premises but was held outside . I repeatedly asked to go into the station where I'd feel safer to ask whatever questions that were burning in my mind regarding my traumatic experience. It did not happen. Instead they told me a phone used for a kidnap was being sought for, later the story changed to robbery then back to kidnap.

As I write this piece I have not written any police statement in any police station which strikes me as very odd. I'm still wondering why I was molested and kidnapped just because a purported phone no was supposedly tracked to phone. Why would they have to harass me when they already had details of the buyer and seller of the phone? In a legitimate situation, the seller of the stolen phone should be the key witness in this investigation, but in this case the police are till now very reluctant to meet the seller.
I know there are mysteries I need to unravel in this case and I will try to get answers to them. It's so pathetic that one can get bad publicity from Nigerian media just because they're so much in a hurry to copy that they forget the importance of confirmation from all the parties involved. Publishing a story based solely on a neighbour's account isn't true journalism, that's pure gossip and slander.
We need real facts from the media and we need protection from the police and not molestation.

Oga Kalu, reciever/buyer of stolen property is even considered more liable than the thief himself. You were not very clear in your submission . Did u or did u not buy a stolen phone? And whether knowingly or not is a case for another day.

It's quite unfortunate that this kind of thing is still happening in Nigeria unchallenged thereby tarnishing the image of the Nigerian police. This similar thing happened to my wife in February this year. My wife was pregnant that period when on that fateful afternoon she received a text message from DHL that she has a parcel to collect. Before you knew what was happening, they called her mobile phone and repeated the same thing and my wife was like"she's not expecting any package from anybody. They went as far as calling her full names. Just to cut the long story short, they asked her for the nearest bus stop to her place which she innocently gave them. On getting to the bus stop, they called her to come and pick the parcel. The moment she got to the bus stop, they handcuffed and pushed her into a waiting unmarked bus and zoomed off, seized her two mobile phones. To God be the glory, she was left the hook their phone number was given to her which I later called and they said they are from SARS Abuja, that there was a robbery incident on a senator and during exchange of guns, one of the robbers dropped his phone while escaping and scrolling through the phone, they saw my wife's number. After all said and done, they apologized to me that it was a mistaken identity. I really thank God that they were not ritualists, kidnappers, or 419ers. The Nigerian police force should please as a matter urgency look into this nefarious act as some unscrupulous elements are now devising means to either kidnap, dupe and harass the innocent public.

Unfortunately you have not stated clearly the reason the Police operatives gave for arresting you. Consequently i can not take up your case. Why did they say they arrested?

You too Kalu, why do you have to buy a stolen phone. Whether buyer or seller, it's a crime and there's no ignorant in law. People should learn to buy new phones or live within your means. Thank God for your release and stop blaming journalists, cause they're doing their jobs. Even from your story, you're trying to leave some vital thing out. Just thank God and stop buying stolen properties in future for your pretty wife's sake

@Anonymous 2:22PM and Anonymous 2:24AM both of you are daft. From the post, he already told you that he is not the person that bought the phone. He said he knows nothing about it. What other explanation do you want? He doesnt need to come down to your nursery level to explan like ABC and 123. Only matured minds and intelligent people can deduce from what he said. Receive some sense because it seems your brains are dead.

Akinolu said...

Instead of you to sympathise with him in his ordeal? Just hear yourself speak. This can happen to anybody. The govt needs to look into this. Oga Kalu sorry for what happen. God be with you

@ Sandra said, it never ceases to amaze me how a lot of Nigerians are always aggressive during a communication. I believe this is mostly because of lack of ability to express oneself adequately,I often wonder why you should always attack and batter an opinion you do not subscribe to rather than a polite and sensible criticism. Words are powerful and we must be careful how we use them.
