Judge withdraws from Saraki's suit to stop CCT trial

Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has withdrawn from the fundamental rights suit filed by Senate President Bukola Saraki to quash the charges of false declaration of assets brought against him by the federal government at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

At the hearing of the case today March 22nd, Justice Kafarati said that his withdrawal is as a result of a report by an online media site, Sahara Reporters, alleging that he, Kafarati, was corrupt and had been bought over by Saraki.

Kafarati said his integrity had been called into question in the matter and so could not continue as the presiding judge.
“It is only in this country that people can wake up and start calling people names. In the circumstance, I disqualify myself from this case. I will hereby send the case file to the chief judge for re-assignment to another judge.”he said

Good move. I don't know anything about the man, I don't know if he is truly corrupt, but the way people peddle half-truth/lies these days is appalling. In the Queens College teacher's case for example, one person just woke up one morning and constructed a whole scenario of lies against this man, and in a matter of hours, everybody was buying the story, and the man's image was tarnished, just like that. Even after the students of the school came out to protest against the lie, people still believe the lies. This social media world is scary to me right now.

The issue remains the issue here. Was he compromised? (Nemo Judex incausa sua). Why the rush to step down and prove a point plus are they even allowed to speak publicly about things this nature?

Kudos to SaharaReporters for standing on the side of the poor masses of Nigeria over these years. The crook judge has no integrity and would have quashed the trial had SR not exposed him. God bless Sahara Reporters and it fearless journalists.
