Photos: Nigerian-born doctor left critically injured and fighting for life after being hit by lorry in Las Vegas

Dr Sebastian Kola-Bankole, from Camden, UK is fighting for his life after he was knocked down by a lorry as he crossed a road off the Sunset Strip on February 15. The 35-year-old doctor, from the Royal London Hospital, had flown out to Los Angeles before the accident for a friend’s wedding.

But his family, who have travelled out to be at his bedside, cannot find a record of him taking out travel insurance so they are faced with paying for his mounting medical bills. They have launched a £250,000 appeal for treatment and to bring him home to the UK.

Dr Kola-Bankole, who specialises in infectious diseases, has three broken vertebrae in his neck and has already had emergency operations to his spine, ears and arteries. He is in an induced coma in intensive care at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and it will be at least two weeks before he is stable enough to be repatriated.

The cost of the treatment and of bringing him back to the UK on a  specialist medical flight is estimated to be £250,000. The online fund had today reached £100k just 48 hours after it was launched.

A close friend, Dr Pawandeep Sarai, who spoke to the Standard described the young doctor as the most selfless and giving person"
"He is still in a  critical condition. We are all doing everything we can for Seb to get him the treatment he needs and back to the UK. His family are obviously devastated by what has happened.
"Seb is just the most selfless, giving person, everyone who has met him will know what a huge personality he has.
"He volunteers for charities, he is always giving to others. He’s a very dear friend and a very caring doctor and he needs our help to get home."

Dr Kola-Bankole is believed to have been hit outside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The collision is currently being investigated by Las Vegas police.
His friends, many of whom are  doctors, are now looking for a suitable hospital in London that will agree to take him. It is thought St Mary’s in Paddington could provide treatment.

Nigerian-born Dr Kola-Bankole  graduated from University College London in 2008 and was based until recently in the infectious diseases department at the Royal London, but had taken time off for the US trip.

"Seb is usually incredibly organised, but we can’t find any insurance for this trip... we’ve been on his email and looked in his flat. We are working on the assumption there is no insurance." said Dr Sarai.

Am not tired living life but am thinking about life because as I am right now if I say have got who to help me out right now then am lieing. The insult I received from my own mother yesterday was something else. If not that am a strong lady I would have go hanged myself, simply because I used ground nut oil at home, this is a woman I sometimes provide for her for the up keep of the home, mind u I don't work, haven't gotten a job yet. What am passing through its just too much, the suffering is too much. Love to do business but no help is forth coming, things are so difficult with me generally. Am writing this because I feel pouring my heart out will at least relive me a little. Out of provocation I exchanged words with her which am feeling so guilty about right now but am doing a really rethink about my life and asking God where have I gone wrong and who have I offended and why are things like this for my family and for me but I believe frustration was what lead my mum to all of that and sometimes when I see people happy, I see it so strange, I feel so sad when will I be so full of joy that way because it's been long have experienced been happy genuinely like that cause most times u see me smiling outside but all is not well with me. She said I should go and marry and stop eating her food, will I go begging for a husband or it comes at the appointed time and when u does nothing no one looks at you. go outside and struggle like ur mates but how do I do that when I love to do something but no financial support yet. My dear libers if I say am happy with my condition am lieing . What do I do please? I need advice? And please I do not want to be known because what am going through its so shameful to be known. please I need advice on what to do or if anyone can help me out raise a little fund so I can at lease get what am doing and be leaving home. So this kind of insults can be put to an end.

In all your writeup you did not:
1. State your age
2. State what you want to do
3. State you qualifications

It sounds like you are a 419er. Sorry

@Chi Be strong people have gone through and still going through what your going through. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THESE THINGS.
1. Get on your knees and pray. Prayer works

2. Look for a mentor, a friend or a relative your close to and tell him/her about what your going through.Ask them for help in getting a job.

3. Try as much as possible to go out of your way to do things around the house like cleaning, etc just to make your mum happy.

4. Don't talk back at your Mum. Trust me it will only make things worse.

5. NEVER EVER GIVE UP TRYING!

STAY BLESSED!

God bless that person that recommended salvation ministries,i live in Atlanta and mon to fri i rush home from work to meet pastor Davids teaching at 6.30pm which i apply to my life and i am blessed. Lady with the issue,if i tell you i was also once in your shoe, but what worked for me was God,i was in a place of depression and always wanted to commit suicide.God lead me to a bible teaching and praying church and i worked my way into success and open doors. Seek 1st God and his kingdom and apply his word to your life also pray without ceasing and you will see what will happen...this is what Linda whom many beg lives by strongly.
