Economist magazine calls Goodluck Jonathan an ineffectual buffoon in new article

Imagine them calling a former African president an ineffectual buffoon! In an article titled 'Crude Tactics', Economist magazine described former president Jonathan as an ineffectual buffoon. How disrespectful! The article reads in part;
"In the eight months since Mr Buhari arrived at Aso Rock, the presidential digs, the homicidal jihadists of Boko Haram have been pushed back into the bush along Nigeria’s borders. The government has cracked down on corruption, which had flourished under the previous president, Goodluck Jonathan, an ineffectual buffoon who let politicians and their cronies fill their pockets with impunity. Lai Mohammed, a minister, reckons that just 55 people stole $6.8 billion from the public purse over seven recent years."- Read the full article here

What do youe expect them to call him? A messiah? An Intellectual? What exactly will suffice? Even his people call him clueless and you expect an oyibo man to call him names of praise.
Abeg, the situation of the country now is not where we have time to check what names we are called. At this stage, we will be glad to answer anything we are called.

"The government has cracked down on corruption, which had flourished under the previous president, Goodluck Jonathan"

they couldn't have said it any better, some people went for my jugular here when I,said GEJ ran the most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria after Abacha.
Reno Omokri should go and organize more fake award ceremonies for him, many of the people hating on Buhari for nothing while supporting GEJ stayed at home for over a year during the ASUU and ASUP strike, some were at the Immigration recruitment exercise where innocent Nigerians lost their lives.
Talk of the police pension scam,
The fuel subsidy scam
The kerosene subsidy scam,
The Abuja CCTV project scam,
The Oduah gate.
The contracts to protect Nigeria waterways given to militants and OPC members.
The botched south African arms deal, where they were caught trying to launder money using a pastor's jet.
The almighty Dasuki gate.
GEJ was not only clueless, but an epitome of mediocrity.
May we never have any president like him in this country again.

I take high exception to the Economist referring to the former president of a nation as an " ineffectual buffoon ". That is gross disrespect to the person of former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the office of the president of Nigeria, as well as gross disrespect to the people of Nigeria as a whole.

Referring to former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in that regard, is rude, unethical and unprofessional, coming from a serious minded magazine like the Economist.

I may not have voted the former president , I may not have been happy with his performances either, but that doesn't give me or anyone the right to become abusive and as a citizen of Nigeria, I will not sit ( in this case, read ) and watch insults hurled at us just because someone / a magazine isn't happy with another's performance.

The Economist should be seen to be constructive in articulating their views.

The magazine should tender an unreserved apology to Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and to the people of Nigeria, period.

3. No progress in fighting boko haram? This is embarrassing! It's even on BBC...Apc funds BBC? Is there any LGA in nigeria where they are presently in charge with their flags on our soil like before?
4.lassa fever isnt as severe as ebola so has a tendency to be ignored sort of in the initial stages by those infected... They may feel feverish & just buy antimalarials and panadol or actifed as is common in nigeria...For such a patient,he wont go to the hosp,he is still intimate with friends, contaminates everywhere, has sex with his girl friend until it becomes worse and he starts bleeding from the eyes! Thats when he goes to the hosp...those he has infected, but not yet sick may travel to other states and meet more people..Do you blame PMB for the contamination he was doing all along befr his lassa became obvious? Does his reluctance to visit the hosp make it easier for doctors & ministry of health to do contact tracing?
Do you think liberia,MSF,WHO & sierra leone didnt work hard?
It is the nature of such diseases!
Nigeria was lucky! Lagos was lucky!
U know why?..When ebola came thru lagos..LUTH was on strike...the private hosp was to pay the price!
If luth was working,he would have been taken to luth- students, registrars, nurses, etc may have been infected during routine physical exam befr confirming it was ebola! They would all have spread the disease in their hostels and eventually to MUSHIN- imagine mushin market..?
This time lassa is different and who told you it is easy to do contact tracing??
Finally, i am ibo so u know..

people supporting Jonathan are doing so because they are made to believe that they are not Nigerians, especially Igbos. They never see truth, all they see first is, the guy is from the south, so it is good if the whole country goes down. I wonder if Bayelsa had been a Baga village where 3000 innocent died within 2weeks, what if these people running their mouth anyhow had been bombed like those North East, GEJ is a real buffon and He has shown that PHD does not make u a good leader. The economist obviously has numerous ineffectual buffoons on its payroll. I have read many of their reports on Nigeria and found them totally unrehearsed. They practice lazy journalism and obviously have stunted knowledge about Nigeria.
1. Former President, Jonathan beat the jihadists and put them on the run before he handed over. Even when the jihadists promised to disrupt elections in the North East, he called their bluff and in spite of just one incident on Presidential election day, they could still not disrupt the elections. Did The Economist not observe this or they just chose to be dumb?
2. The current President has continuously lied about all monies for arm being embezzled and till date, he has not bought even a bullet for the military and yet, he is fighting the idiotic jihadists with the same hardware bought by Jonathan.
3. The current President claims to be fighting corruption. If there is any real intelligent or honest person in the Economist, they would admit the fight against corruption is nothing but political persecution. Or why would the anti-graft agency, EFCC, choose to ignore all petitions against Buhari's ministers, e.g Rotimi Amaechi, Fashola, Timipre Sylva to mention but a few. All these men and many more belong to the President's party and not one of them has is being investigated in spite of overwhelming evidence against them.
4. I expect The Economist to also credit President Buhari with the defeat of polio in Nigeria as I am hearing the present regime making so much noise about about fighting polio and promising to involve all state Governors. Last time I checked, the last time Nigeria recorded a polio case was in July 24, 2014 and even the World Health Org. (WHO) removed Nigeria from polio endemic list for the first in on 25 September, 2015 after not recording an incident for over a year. I guess a 'buffoon' could achieve that or would the Economist say it was by chance? (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2015/nigeria-polio/en/).
5. From dollar being exchanged for about N199 in May 2015 to N305 in January 2016, less than one year after taking over, Nigerian Naira has lost over 120% of its value. I wonder who the real 'buffoon' is here, the former President or the current one. The cluelessness of President Buhari and his team has led to capital flight and in just one alone in week 2 of 2016, at least N1.3tr was lost in stocks. And the discredited Chinese 'circuit breaker' was introduced.
It is either The Economist does not do its research before articles are posted or they are simply being lazy.

Oh bonario can u just shut up already!now let me tell you, there is corruption in buhari's regime but those involved will make it underground..every leader out there is corrupt in one way or the other.there are people in this administration who would steal but maybe on a low profile to avoid being noticed...why was buhari not probed for the two suv's he got?wen he was given those cars, why didn't he question it then and equally reject it as a saint that he is.you come here saying Jonathan was the most corrupt leader..pls keep shut bonario...you really think being a leader is as easy as just leading a children's section in a church...even being a class captain in ur class wasn't even easy either..Jonathan knew what to do but unfortunately the people around him made matters worst..anybody within the present administration still blaming the past administration for the reason the country hasn't moved forward or gotten a big change yet is a swine and a lazy ass fool.how many months has pmb been in power?what exactly have we gotten as change?still busy going for his enemies?those back stabbers who defected to apc, check them cos they all have huge skeletons too.and I stand to correct you that boko haram hasn't been wiped out!so who are those people boming still?the ghost?see bonario dont get me upset at all..if the present administration felt jona crumbled the country they should just get to work already and stop blabbing or keep pointing fingers at jona for their lack of speed in getting things done...i dont support any of the leaders but they should let that man get his peace..and if that economist magazine belongs to the US media, they have got masters in stupidity..you dont stay somewhere to judge our leader out of what you heard or saw in the media if you aren't based in the country or you dont have your information from the right source...bonario just keep shut

Instead of gasing up your audience over the comment, can you prove otherwise? According to you, his most admirable decision was to step down from office after being voted out. Your bar is set so low, Linda. Get some standards on the qualities of an effective leader, and maybe Africa will get somewhere.
